I've had surgery for torn retinas in both eyes. Right eye started acting up over the weekend. Had that looked at this morning. No new tears. Those eye exams suck though.
Currently in orthopedic urgent care. Knee blew up and it's hard to walk.
Driving around the TCs all day with snow on the ground and dilated eyes is no fun.

Relieved it wasn't another retinal tear, any idea what caused your symptoms?jhawks99 wrote: ↑Tue Dec 03, 2024 12:15 pm I've had surgery for torn retinas in both eyes. Right eye started acting up over the weekend. Had that looked at this morning. No new tears. Those eye exams suck though.

Sorry to hear about your knee. Hope it's nothing serious, and will resolve without any intervention.
I also hope it's a cloudy day, atmospheric-wise...

New floater. Doc took one look at the image and said, "That's a big gnarly floater."
Knee seems to be arthritis. Big ass needle of cortezone

I'm sure many remember Copper. When he left "here" he went to FaceBook and over time posted an ongoing saga of his symptoms, visits to the ophthalmologist to be diagnosed, and subsequently dealing with, floaters. Sounds like no fun, but could be worse.
Glad your knee doesn't need to be surgerized.

ruined a few years of my wife’s life and sent her into a nasty depression after a botched lasik procedure. numerous eye docs told her she was just slow to neuroadapt (none of them could see what she was seeing). it took a doc going old school with a vintage instrument that i can’t recall the name of to catch a glimpse of what she was seeing and actually believe her.
she’s now had vitrectomies in both eyes, and still wears prescription glasses on occasion
fuck lasik, and fuck docs that don’t LISTEN to their patients
hope you’re feeling better, 99
Have we fallen into a mesmerized state that makes us accept as inevitable that which is inferior or detrimental, as though having lost the will or the vision to demand that which is good?

Very, very sorry to hear that, Trad.
One of the cardinal rules of practicing medicine, and one I repeated to myself as much or maybe more than any other is:
"If you listen to the patient, they'll tell you what's wrong."
Which reflects the ~ 85% of the time when you can make a diagnosis strictly based on what the patent tells you, before you ever touch them, draw their blood, x-ray them, or anything else. It's why taking a history of the problem and getting in the patient's own words, is so strongly emphasized in med school.
The "rule" is an adaptation of something one of, if not the, fathers of "modern" medicine said well over a century ago:
“Listen to your patient; he is telling you the diagnosis.”
This oft-cited quote from Sir William Osler, the 19th-century physician and chair of Clinical Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania, references the central importance of taking a history in medical care.
