BasketballJayhawk wrote: Tue Aug 31, 2021 8:15 am I just think the huge differences in reaction by some here from the Afghanistan situation vs say the Syria situation under Trump is very telling. And quite predictable. It was meltdown city about fucking over the Turks. Not so much about all the Afghani people we are fucking over. It's just typical partisan selective giving a damn bullshit. It was then (for Syria w/ Trump) and it is now.

"Hats off" to Uncle Joe.
Or you see it how you have decided to see it. You choose to see discussion as meltdown and you choose to see lack of outrage as "crickets". You decided that everyone was on this team or that team and it has formed your opinions on pretty much everything. You've been blabbering the same three lines for two weeks now. We get it.

9-11 was 20 years ago. we have had zero terrorist attacks since then. that is remarkable.

i have 100% faith in our military and intelligence communities. they will get the job done despite the clowns in washington.
It has been really cool to see the stories of ex military taking privately funded trips to rescue 10s of thousands of the Afghani people. Risking their lives when they really aren't obligated to, but feel they have to because they are the ones who looked many of those same people in the eyes and said we wouldn't abandon them.
And it's been really cool to see all of the people who have magically rediscovered their love and trust of the US intelligence community.

LOL @ brocoach

Could say the same about your side suddenly being very skeptical of anonymous sources or leaks from various departments.

And around and around we go. You guys are the worst.

What anonymous sources and leaks are you talking about? I dont recall those being discussed here although I freely admit to not begin a masochist and scrolling backwards to read some posts that I miss.

We just evacuated 120,000+ people and ended a 20-year war.

This needs to be celebrated, to an extent.

I don't feel very celebratory. Too many dead, too many wounded physically and mentally. So much waste. We never had a plan to end the war, or stated goals. I think there was a chance of success until we switched our attention to Iraq. Maybe the dumbest invasion of all time. After that, there was no possibility of any other ending. Uncle Joe did the best he could, this was never going to end any other way.

I suppose morons like illy are feeling celebratory because "their side" gets to stick to Uncle Joe.

Not exactly my idea of a celebration.

Why would we celebrate 20 years of failure by 4 administrations?

we have not had a terrorist attack on American soil since 9-11. i will celebrate that. that is remarkable.

that’s exactly what it is

someone who has tried so hard to convince everyone he’s not on a side sure is showing his true colors

How was there a chance of success when we never really had goals or an end game?

What was the end game, again? Look for Bin Laden and break up terrorist support networks?

Bin Laden’s been dead over a decade, and we handed the place right back to the very same guys we were trying to oust when we got there…

We have had plenty of terrorist attacks on American soil since 9/11.

They have just been by domestic terrorists.

I was just as critical and against Trump.

It's some of you guys who switched it up, just like some of us around here said you would despite your claims to the contrary.

I voted for Biden. Glad he won. But he's doing a below average job, as evidenced by his piss poor approval ratings recently.

I think there was a chance of some kind of success. Getting a government together maybe some kind of order. Slim chance, but there was so much corruption, maybe there wasn't a chance at all. Pair that with no goal and no end plan maybe there never was a chance. What do I know?

I remember W saying that we wasn't going to shoot a missile into a tent and call it good. Maybe a few dozen missiles into tents may have been the way to go.

Our Governor has low approval ratings, but our hospitals still have ICU beds available and he's doing what needs to be done without regard to approval numbers. So is Joe.

and now that I think about it, at the time I remember thinking W had some personal beef to settle over his daddy, but maybe that’s more Iraq.

But yeah, I guess we actually kind of set up a western style Democracy there

But I dunno if that gummint ever did enough for the people to get the people’s respect

Or maybe just that they never really wanted a western style democracy there to begin with

Joe is asleep at the wheel. Just watch the press conferences. Snapping at reporters who ask questions he doesn't like. Telling half truths, and outright lies almost weekly. He's a 1 term president is my prediction. Certainly won't get my vote again.
