Bools are trading Alex Caruso to the Blunder for Josh Giddey.

One thing that annoys me about JJ Redick is that when I close my eyes and listen to him talk, I could be listening to a douche bag version of Jay Bilas.

I have no idea how JJ Redick will do coaching the Lakers but I know he has zero coaching experience.
It's kind of confusing to me how and why the Lakers feel that he is the best option (or second best if you count Hurley) to coach their team. It will be interesting to me to see who he chooses and who the Lakers have surrounding him - on the staff. There are rumors of Rondo, Jared Dudley, Scott Brooks, Sam Cassell, and others. Ok, but if all those guys were supposedly also candidates to be the HEAD coach, then why hire JJ over them to be the HEAD coach?

If the Lakers keep their core and can stay healthy, I expect them to win 50+ games, be a top 4 or 5 seed in the West, and make a nice playoff run.
If they don't stay healthy, they aren't winning shit.

I don't think any coach could get this Lakers team ( current roster ) anywhere better than the Western Conference Finals.

I think the Lakers want JJ to take the Brad Stevens/Pat Riley type trajectory. Coach for a while, then move to the front office and lead the team for decades.

The lack of coaching experience doesn't bother me as much in the NBA as it would in college where you're dealing with recruiting and more immature personalities.

I do think a coach is still important in the NBA ( of course it is ) but on the spectrum of importance for coaches in the professional, 90% professional ( college football and basketball ) and amateur world, I think NBA coaches are in the lower half.

Agreed. College basketball coaches are much more important to their teams success imo.

Wasn't always this way, but I like him a lot now.

No clue if he'll be successful coaching players, but he's certainly intelligent, and knowledgeable about basketball, and very well spoken.

who knows what kind of coaching chops he’s got, but he seems prone to putting his foot in his mouth

Compared to what?

Ham? Walton?

What about Monty Williams in Detroit?

Reddick may fail. Or he may succeed. Either way, compared to the standard the NBA has set on coaching failures, it has very little chance to be "hilarious" compared to whats already occurred.

I just think so much of Lebron's career has been kind of a circus show, particularly on the GM end of things. He's also leaned toward team building based on these sorts of buddy-buddy relationships.

He's also at least had some say in the hiring plenty of other of his coaches, including at least one that lasted all of what like 18 games?

So, to hire someone that fits the pals-with-Lebron profile far more so than the actually-proven-coach with-actual-experience profile, to a position as significant as head coach of the Lakers, just might end up being hilarious.

Which is interesting since the Lakers said LeBron wanted nothing to do with the coaching search, long before JJ was chosen.

So you're blaming LeBron for who the Lakers picked? Even though there is a decent chance LeBron isn't even a Laker next year? And even though JJ himself said, out of respect for their friendship, that he didn't even talk to LeBron about the job?
