Re: NFL Season 2024
Here is my thought for the day.
It's 2024. You would think we would have much better athletes today in 2024 than we had back 25+ years ago. Heck, we probably do. Right?
Yet, I believe the 2024 Lions (12-1 right now) and the 2024 Chiefs (11-1 right now) would be 2-11 and 2-10 if they had played the 75 or 78 Steelers or the 89 or 84 49ers.
Am I wrong to believe that?

Some would depend on which rules they had to play under. Old rules or new rules.
Silly.

Would like Buchanan, Lanier, Marsalis, Thomas, Taylor, Bell, Brown and Riggins right now.

Not quite but I basically did.
Probably silly but I feel those teams were a more than just a little better than the 2024 Lions and Chiefs are - in my semi (but not very ) educated opinion.
As far as skill comparisons, off the top of my head, what do Terry Bradshaw, Mel Blount, Jack Ham, Franco Harris, Donnie Shell, John Stallworth, Lynn Swann, Joe Greene, and Jack Lambert all have in common?
Side note - I feel it's criminal that I didn't put L.C. Greenwood on that list.

Re: NFL Season 2024
Would they be playing all 12 of those games against that team or would they be playing those 12 games against a schedule of the NFL teams that existed in 75/78 or 84/89?RainbowsandUnicorns wrote: ↑Fri Dec 06, 2024 4:50 amHere is my thought for the day.

The Steel Curtain defense of the 1970s was revolutionary at the time. It is now antiquated and basic in today's NFL.
The Bill Walsh offense of 1984 was revolutionary at the time. It is now antiquated and basic in today's NFL.
If those teams played today's elite teams using today's film study, coaching and analysis, today's teams would win a majority of those games in my opinion.
The NFL is not even remotely as competitive in 1975 as it is today. In the 1975 season, 9 of the 26 teams finished with a win percentage of .286 or worse (at the time that was 10+ losses). It was very much a case of the "haves vs. the have nots". Last year, just 4 of 32 teams finished with a win percentage that low.

I happen to feel differently - being that choose to be a cynical old contrarian.

Andy, Mahomes, Worthy and Hardman would shred them for plays they’ve never even dreamed could be.
