Be sure to catch the replay of DaJuan's floater in slow motion from above the basket at ~ 0:55 seconds, and watch HD fighting for position for a possible rebound...
"Dajuan Harris would probably admit that he did not play up to his standard last year. Harris shot a career-worst 43% on layups in halfcourt situations, per Synergy, and Kansas' lack of shooting exacerbated some of the holes in Harris' game. Kansas' big offseason additions have unlocked the best version of Harris. The Kansas point guard was outstanding on Tuesday, totaling 14 points and nine assists. Harris shot … 5-6 on shots at the rim against Duke. Harris is shooting 80% at the rim this season. Kansas needed every single bucket from its veteran to outlast Duke."
Harris has seemed so much better at and around the rim this season. Nice to see some stats to support it.

How about Griffen with clutch free throws to force them to take a 3.
Griffen stepped up and made several big plays late. Impressive stuff. Him coming off the bench rattled him a little and it felt like he forced a couple shots earlier in the game (the bad one with like 15 seconds left in the first half) but he was big time for us at the end of the game

Dajuan player of the game for me.
KJ a close runner up.
Figured you'd choose hunter

Flagrant 2s are rarely called.
They should be clearly “oh fuck yea that dude is outta here.”
That certainly wasn’t the occasion to call it.
100 %
It was shocking. We all thought they were debating whether to call a flagrant 1 or nothing at all

Mayo looks like he is still adjusting to the more physical play at this level. He struggled tonight but his teammates stepped up without Hunter and pulled out a big win. What a game.
I disagree he struggled he had some good moments , played some good defense, and played well within our offense

Re: Self’s comments about Poise, Toughness, and Defense.
HD being ejected could prove invaluable. The fact that our defense improved significantly with him out (as most here knew it would with right talent level on roster) won’t be lost on Self. I don’t think HD loses playing time, specifically, but it will be easier to not have him in (potentially) moving forward, given game situations.
I'm not sure our defense improved with him out.

This may be my crimson and blue colored glasses, but Hunter's gotta bring his foot down to try and sit up and get back up. His eyes were completely on the ball and his foot hadn't made contact with Dookie yet, I would lean towards it was awkward but unintentional.
There's certainly at least room for it to be interpreted that way.
If he was trying to kick him, I feel like he would have done so much harder and more of a jab with his foot than a scrape - it felt like they were looking for a reason to call it a Flagrant 2.
There is some half truth to this. Brown had been getting by with a tonnnn of hacking and cheap stuff throughout the game. I'm sure he was frustrated defending a bigger better player, and hunter became frustrated with his antics. Brown undercutting hunter was also a cheap antic and led to him being under hunters foot. Hunter retaliated a little, but there probably was not an intentional thought process, just building frustration and reaction. Kicking hunter out was a bad call, they fucked it up. But it probably works in KUs favor for the rest of the season
A Flagrant 1 was acceptable and probably warranted. They also gave KU the benefit of like 4 tacky little make up calls right after so maybe they felt questionable about it too

Im not sure he makes as big a difference as people think, on either end. His defense has been a lot better this year than I remember. He changes our play style a lot. Sometimes our offense flows better without him being a focal point to. We are much better offensively overall with him, but we lean on him too much sometimes and it creates less balance and flow
But we can get by without him in an 8 minute stretch with lots of timeouts and breaks. We can't afford to not have him for a whole game

I think Bidunga did well.
But he also had 4 turnovers and a bonehead moving screen.
He'll be hard to play down the stretch in close games if he can't take care of the ball.

Bidunga is worse at nearly every aspect of defense other than shot blocking. He's a mess in pick and rolls. He fouls and doesn't stay vertical. HD is better at blitzing and trapping.
The best defensive stretches we had last night were with HD in the game, not out of the game.

""I thought it was a good call," Kansas coach Bill Self said. "I thought the flagrant 2 may have been a little severe. I thought it was definitely a flagrant 1. ... I didn't think at the moment that it warranted a level 2, but I do think it needed to be called."
"The explanation was that it was intentional and his head went to the ground, which is probably accurate," Self later added. "But I didn't think it was enough to warrant that. But the bottom line is it did and it'll probably be the best thing to happen to us that it did because it'll teach him a good lesson and also it'll give some other kids some confidence.""

right on.
That's kinda just coach talk after the fact, cuz Self sure did seem worked up about it in real time.
I'm afraid it's gonna be even more of a target on Hunter's back. Every single little everything he does now may be cause for official review.
At the very least, we gonna hear an awful lot of, "he had that flagrant 2 against dook..."

we pulled it out.
fb got valuable minutes, playing experience that he would not have gotten otherwise.
maybe this will cool hd's jets a little bit.
win win win all the way around.

Well if it even marginally decreases hunters chance of doing stupid shit like that again it's a plus (probably won't). I'd rather have him get tossed out of a meaningless but prideful noncon game than an ncaa tourney game
And more importantly it made us figure out away to win without him. Instead of just leaning too hard on hunter, everyone had to step up. It allowed for a guy like Griffen to make big plays which should help him become more comfortable here at KU
And obviously bidunga was the big winner. He had to play down the stretch. Pretty obvious that the faster he develops, the better we become
