Can I get you anything else, sir?

An early checkin, or a fresh pair of undies, perhaps?

one of the best features about airb&b, and i’d imagine other such services, is that the customer gets rated as well as the establishment

I feel like we are only getting 1 side of that story...shocker.

its a fairly big inconvenience to have a water line break in your short term rental. If your there a short time your using up your time to repack and move, when you could be doing other things. I wouldn't throw a fit, but it would be frustrating.

do you not see their side of the issue at all? If you don't, you should probably move out of the customer service business.

I'm curious, what other options did you offer?

We offered to move them to another condo, same number of beds and baths.

Uhm, in my mind that doesn't cut it.
"Sorry y'alls room ain't got no water. You got to move. Yer welcome."

An offer of a free or substantial discounted dinner at the restaurant or something is in order.

Discounts were offered.

Yall wanted 25 gallons and poopy pants instead.

Not to worry, though! Yall can go to 99’s for dinner now too. Maybe he’s making bbq.

do you think they should be happy and thanking you for the inconvenience?

I didnt say I would throw a fit, but you are having a real hard time viewing this from any point of view other than the fact that it cause you an inconvenience and maybe a little more work.

i think he just expects a bit more understanding, and for people not to be assholes unnecessarily

but, most people suck and dealing with them is part of the game when working in the service industry

thats all true. But I understand frustration when you have no water in a place you've paid for and now you have to move locations. I would be particularly frustrated if the person I was dealing with in trying to get it solved was acting like it was no big deal and I shouldn't be concerned about it and should just use my time to smile and move my family and be happy for a new location instead of enjoying my time on vacation.

make no mistake, I dislike most people and don't like dealing with them....part of why I'm not in the customer service industry (at least not as the primary function of my job). But, you have to be able to understand why it is upsetting for them and understand its your job to make it right, thats a fairly significant disruption to their stay.

No, of course I don’t think they should be happy. It’s a huge inconvenience!

But it’s a matter of just being reasonable. Like ChalkRocker’s sig.

Do you think, given the broken water line, explaining and apologizing and offering a comparable unit at a
discount/refund is NOT reasonable?

Cuz you otherwise come across as normalizing pants pooping.

To each yall’s own, I guess.

I think you're attitude about it is the most frustrating thing, honestly.

If I'm remodeling a house and something happens to unexpectedly inconvenience the owner, (which does happen time to time) that is 100% on me to make that right as quickly and with as little further disruption to them as possible. If that means working a 20 hr day, or paying for their hotel or whatever....thats what it is. You communicate with them the situation, what youre doing to fix it, ask for their perspective and how you can assist them in any way possible for them to be as minimally impacted as possible and then you work your ass off to fix it. You make them feel like they are the priority regardless of what caused the problem and whether or not it was your fault or not.

The last thing I would do is run here and post some overly accented smack post about them and why they were the assholes and look for some anti work back up comments to take solace in. Id think you'd way too busy trying to right the wrong for any of that non sense.

I do like these attempts at perspective.

Yet I can’t help but wonder - if I instead came here whining about how my vacation rental had a broken water line and I was offered another unit but I instead chose to poop my pants, TDub would be here giving me shit about how I’m such an entitled doosher with no personal responsibility.

“Qusdahl you can’t just go acting like it’s everyone else’s fault you pooped yourself! What next, you want them to wipe for you too??”

Pretty hard to tell how Oussie handled it. And giving him the benefit of the doubt, these folks do seem like a-holes. He should have mentioned the offered discount earlier in this thread.

are you going to run in what if circles all day? Or are you going to fix the problem and make sure they want to come back to the property and/or refer the business to others?

I would not have pooped my pants. But an upper-decker is probably in order.

They very well could be and probably are , I just think we get a very slanted take on the scenario and I feel like ous feels just as inconvenienced by it as the people. I think he forgets customer relations are the gig he chose.
