Our frontcourt depth sure would look better with SDS out there... I'm still holding onto hope.

Dedrick said coach told him that was the ugliest 31 he had ever seen. LOL

Mitch was awful. His only shot attempts were threes. He continues to not block out or go for defensive rebounds. And he didn't get out on his guys at all, which would kill us against teams with 4s that can shoot.

What did he do that looked good?

Vick kinda disappeared in the first half and his shots just weren't falling. His grade might have been a bit low.

9 boards, great defense, no turnovers, drove both to score and to pass, grabbed loose balls, looked to feed the post. These are things that win games.

Remember that rebound and bad turnover early in the second half. Gave up a pass to an Emporia State player for a basket.

Self put him on the bench until about 4 minutes left.

I think a C seems fair.

All I know is this team has an incredible amount of talent. So raw though. I wouldn't be surprised if they struggle big time against Michigan State, just because they haven't found a rhythm together yet. But they are going to be incredibly good when they find it.

I do remember that. Facepalm. He threw it to the wrong light skinned dude.

I know Self "benched" him after that, but I think some of that was to get the young guys and transfers some minutes to get comfortable.

I agree we've got some talent....what's interesting is that with all that talent there may only be 1 or 2 guys that have long NBA careers.

I think you're right, we will definitely struggle with Michigan State. We almost always do....but I think we can win it if we play well. We're going to need Dedric to play well every game because we're going to struggle to score at times...he looked so smooth out there offensively last night.

Charlie Moore cannot stay in front of ANYONE on defense.

Agreed. I was kind of surprised by that. He flails his arms around and it looks like he's trying hard but he didn't seem to bother his man defensively at all before he'd eventually get blown by.

I thought he'd be a starter, and now it looks like he's going to be the 5th guard on the depth chart. We're going to need his shooting though, so he's going to have to play regardless of how terrible at defense he is.

Maybe sometimes, but he looked locked in. Maybe even frantic. Definitely active. Just not effective and not very good anticipation. He's there, right in front of his guy, and he's trying, but he's just not bothering his man on a lot of plays.

Game 1, so I'll cut him a break. He's not going to be a lock down defender. Hell we haven't had 1 in a while it feels like, but we need his shooting. I don't think Garrett needs to take 3 attempts from 3pt land in very many games personally, so we need some Moore on the floor. Maybe even if only around 15-20min per game.

I'd play Dotson and Grimes as much as possible alongside Vick. Sprinkle in some Garrett and Moore, and we've got a good guard rotation, though nothing spectacular like we've had in the past.

This is such a weird team. I feel like we're good compared to the rest of the country, but not really good compared to our teams of the past.... could be maybe a bit of a down year in CBB?
