Clock resets to 20 seconds after an offensive board.
This rule is stupid. In the NBA, where stupidity is the norm*, it fits (reset to 14 sec). Now the clock operator has one more thing to worry about, leading to all sorts of errors. I can see many situations where it will be the ref/operator's judgement on how the clock resets. For instance what happens if there is a defensive rebound and the player loses the ball out of bounds? What if the ball is being batted around and the defensive player is the last to touch it as it fall out of bounds? Is that considered a defensive rebound followed by a change of possession or an offensive rebound? Reset the shot clock every time the ball touches the rim or an actual change of possession. Done.
*Anyone remember when was the last time they called traveling? 1982?

I can't understand how anyone can watch the NBA and think it's terrible basketball.

I mean, different strokes.
I certainly think there's some truth behind the feeling that you don't have to watch a single minute of the NBA regular season and you would still be able to have a really good understanding of the teams, players and league.
And, I also think that notion can permeate into the players' own psyche. NBA players and teams are ridiculously good at basketball. Like, embarrassingly better than college basketball. But, the experience itself in comparison, kind of dull.

A basic rule of basketball is the ball must be dribbled. The NBA threw that rule out a few years ago and it only gets worse every year James Harden adds another step to his "step back".
What I can't understand is how people can say something is so bad then follow it up with "that's why I haven't watched in X years." How can you know about a product without consuming it?

We're also spoiled as Kansas fans. 99.9% of college basketball is nothing like the AFH experience or the overall Jayhawk experience.
Sort of a side note: I went to a regular season Mavs game in Dallas about 3 years ago, no vested interest in the Mavs or Nets who they were playing, and it was a fantastic atmosphere. Not AFH type atmosphere, but super entertaining, good basketball, good fan interaction. I love the NBA product. Their rules. How their games are officiated (not necessarily the harden travel step back thing ND mentions, but the refs for the most part try to avoid making the game all about them like it seems they do in college). All of it.
I find a lot of the mediocre college basketball match ups during the regular season extremely boring. Terrible skill level. Terrible coaching. Inconsistent officiating game to game, especially conference to conference. There are maybe 15-20 non Kansas games a year that are amazing and fun to watch with no rooting interest for either team, but many of the rest just don't do it for me.

Joshua Langford out until at least January.

NBA is good because it's the best athletes in the world playing the greatest sport in the world at the highest level.
But the amount of room for improvement in the NBA is staggering for being the highest version of a professional sport.
It could be SO MUCH BETTER than it is.

Not their best player, but arguably their most important.

So for those who voted in the AP... If they waited until today, #1 drops to #?

Still top 5. I'd say #3. NPOY frontrunner, Aaron Henry, Xavier Tilman, and Kyle Ahearns is still a hell of a team.

Just looked our schedule, and it is brutal in the non-conference this year. Duke to open with and then later Nova on the road.

It sounds like he should be good for most of conference play and postseason.
Being that the preseason poll is supposed to be where the teams end up at the end of the season, I wouldn't back off MSU if I had voted them #1 (but I would have voted Kansas).

I fully admit my ignorance. I didn't realize the pre-season poll is supposed to be where people feel the teams will end up at the end of the season - but that makes sense.
If Langford is good to go from January on, then I wouldn't back off MSU either - if I had voted them #1.
So difficult these days to do anything other than guess - and yet those who guess usually do a pretty darn good job.

I don't know what preseason polls are supposed to indicate or reflect, but they don't mean much once the ball gets tossed. Our preseason ranking didn't do us much good last year.

It's really up to the pollster, but the large majority of them do the preseason rankings based on how good the team will be all season, most importantly being the end of season.
It also makes the polls problematic b/c many pollsters will base their week 2 rankings off of what they perceive the teams to be prior to the season.

2. Kansas Jayhawks
Bill Self says the recent NCAA notice of allegations will focus him and his team like nothing else could. Well, that is bad news for Jayhawks opponents. Self's team has size, length and depth. Devon Dotson is among the best point guards, Udoka Azubuike is a load in the paint, and Ochai Agbaji can be a star. Kansas will start a new streak in the Big 12, and
don't be surprised if Mark Emmert is handing Bill Self the trophy in Atlanta, before being moved aside for the photo.

So Hoiberg gets his start by losing to UC Riverside by 20 at home.
Supposedly he's in a Les Miles situation with the roster. Only way out of that is to recruit, which we all know he just loves to do. Something has to give.
