I mean, I guess.

But do we really gain anything by adding him at this point, other than emergency playing time.

We didn't play Enaruna or Braun against Texas, and they'd surely be quite a ways ahead of Wilson at this point.

I mean, if he was a PG, I might feel differently. But what do we get out of another wing player who's a freshman and way behind?
This is reductive, but: we get another wing player. And one considerably higher-regarded than Enaruna. If he's a better option at the 4 (which I think is the case), then add him.
Well, addmittedly this is flawed because the sample size is one game, but both Enaruna and Braun played more minutes than Wilson against Dook (The one full game he was available for).

So...if Enaruna was ahead of him as the small ball 4, I'm not sure how Wilson could have passed him in the time was injured and not playing.

I can't make a compelling argument for the benefits of redshirting him...I just don't know how much better it makes us if he plays this year.
Odds are decent that he doesn't help in a material way. But, combined with the odds that he's here for four anyway, and the chance that we're playing for pride as soon as next year anyway, I say all hands on deck.

If Wilson is OK with burning a year of his eligibility because he wants to be available to try to help this team reach their goals then I fully support that. I am thrilled that his recovery is going so well that it is even a conversation. Whatever he gives us is found money.

You have to wonder if he sees himself going pro next year anyway and wants the extra exposure, even if not at full speed.

I doubt that very highly. He wasn't some uber elite recruit.

Right he was ranked in the 50s.

He was a 2-3 year player, which is why the option of taking the redshirt needs to be at least considered (for himself that is).

Ultimately, I hope he does what's best for him (and I'm sure he will), I don't think this decision impacts the team a great deal either way.

Agreed. So long as he is happy with how Kansas handles the whole situation and he remains with KU for as long as he wants, I am happy.

I hope you’re right; however 18 year olds are not known for their solid, rational decision-making.

I hope he does not play this year. no point wasting a year of eligibility for spot minutes. he was barely getting minutes before his injury. if we need to try to work a true freshman into the rotation in February then we have a lot bigger issues than we realize. braun enaranu and de sousa are all barely getting spot minutes and all were ahead of him on the depth chart before he got hurt

and that isnt a knock on wilson. self likes the kid a lot always talks about his toughness. which is rare praise for a freshman. hes a good shooter, which some might argue would be his value to the team this season, but he strikes me as a 4 year (hopefully 5 year player)

I just don't see the size or athleticism for him to be a guy that goes pro early. average athlete. has a chance to be a really really good forward/wing for us over the next several years and become a dominant college player. hes one of the reasons im really excited about our young core moving forward beyond this season. having a big versatile shooter is more and more valuable the way the game continues to change. and braun/enaranu/wilson give us all kinds of options moving forward

He might find " having a chance to contribute to a Final Four team" to be worth losing the year of eligibility, especially if he confidently views himself as a three year player. He'd still have three full seasons left.

We don't need him but he has earned the right to try to earn minutes.

Final Four would be worth it to me in the same situation.

I also don't think it's unreasonable to suggest that, all things considered, this year is far and away his best shot at a Final Four while at KU.

I have to imagine he's pretty far behind after missing this much time. I'd say the odds he gets back healthy AND has enough trust from Self to actually play meaningful minutes in games over Moss are slim to none....plus we are still playing (or hoping/trying) DMac and Dok together quite a bit each game.

He should do what he wants....but I don't think he should just assume he's an early entrant and burning a year won't matter or be a risk. He's really shown nothing to make me believe he's a safe bet to make it to the NBA early.

I think you're underestimating the talent we've got coming back next year.

Next year we will be in ncaa jail.

If the kid wants to join the team a month from now he should. But I don’t expect him to have an impact.

I think it's possible that next year's team is as good as this one. And maybe more efficient because they will (almost certainly) play four-out.

But yes, I do think it's very possible we're in NCAA jail next year. And, after that, because there's not a lot of certainty as to who will stay around, who we'll be able to recruit, and frankly whether we'll still have Bill...let's just say I'd push all my chips to the center this year.

Not in jail literally, but we're almost certainly going to face a postseason ban OR Self will face a lengthy suspension. Maybe not both, but likely 1 of the 2. Just don't see how they do NOTHING to us when they've already started dishing out harsh punishments. Oh well. We will survive it regardless.
