Obvious to most, but, interesting comment in there confirming that Grimes was essentially told he dodnt have a spot to play at Kansas anymore.
He gave away his spot. Didnt matter that he did it in error and realized he wanted it back.
Sure, but Bill wouldve made a spot for someone he liked and had faith in (like Dotson). We hadnt signed Jalen Wilson yet. Hell, he bent over backwards to try and help Vick.

Grimes and his camp at least implied publicly that they thought Self was to blame for his less-than-expected performance as a freshman.

I wonder what kinda blame he alleged behind closed doors.

When you’re 18, everything is someone else’s fault. I’m guessing 99.9% of the coaches out there don’t give much credence to the kind of claims Grimes made. The good news is, he’ll grow up and write more meaningful chapters in his life. Hopefully, KU’s future chapters will include a few more national championships.

Lulz. He sounds exactly like WSU fan, insisting that they are NOT a mid-major.

Did anyone else notice that Grimes once again disappeared in a game against a Big 12 opponent yesterday? He Finished with zero points. In the time I watched the game he was very ineffective. His shot was still flat and inaccurate.
At some point he is going to have to recognize it's his inability to compete at the higher levels and stop blaming others.

Well it's not the Bill thought Grimes and his camp was right and Bill was wrong. It's more the collateral damage to KU that the Grimes camp can inflict by spouting off.

Bill played it right. It was a bad fit to begin with. Politely withhold an invitation back, but do everything you can to get him eligible to play right away. Wash your hands and try to avoid getting shat on.

How much damage could he inflict by spouting off?

And how much credibility would be given to the word of an underperforming 18 year old against a hall of fame coach at a blue blood program?

Yep. All in all, this worked out best for both parties. Self and KU got a little backlash from it after he had his annual one hot game but now that Houston is irrelevant and Grimes is still erratic and inconsistent despite the "better fit", the whole failure is in the rearview mirror.

Good luck to the kid, I hope he gets it figured out. And I hope he shakes loose of whoever is in his ear telling him the things he's being told.

Lots- if he was lighting it up at Houston, which he isnt.

There is negative recruiting all over the country that KU isn't the best place for top end talent.

Hmm. Bummer.

Meanwhile, our top end talent is doing All American things.

We have two players that could be argued onto the 1st All American team.

We've done quite well finding that Goldilocks zone on recruiting.

It's really only hurt us a few times on the perimeter, but developing Frank and Devonte gives Self all the benefit of the doubt.

For me, these two exceed that by a good margin.

One thing I really like about this team is we have a dominant big, a game changing PG, and a really really good wing.

Dok's my favorite player since Frank.
Ochai is way up there too - he stays another year and heartthrob city.

Dotson is my favorite player since frank and ochai is very very likable. I love Dok, just not as much as some people. I'm partial to guards.

I do think Dok has the potential to have a bigger impact on the game than anyone.

This team is very likable all around. Some good characters leading the way in Dok, Dot, MG, Ochai ‘The Ocho’ Agbaji...

Especially compared to just a season ago.
