How are they different? In particular the MJ situation. He chose to miss a season. These guys would be choosing to cancel the playoffs.
Are you really asking?

MJ didn’t choose to miss a season as a statement in support of social justice.

(And if you think it was MJ’s choice to “retire,” then LOL, MJ also has some oceanfront property in Idaho he’d like to sell you, but that’s a different story)

I think you are missing my point.

I cant count the number of times i have heard "MJ would have won 7 straight if it werent for him playing baseball". It never seems to bother the MJ guys when that is thrown out there....so not sure why it would bother the MJ guys/anti lebron guys if the lebron fans throw out "he could have won 1 more title the year they boycotted the playoffs".

...and i love the MJ conspiracy theories. If we dont know by now we will never know. Maybe he got banned. Maybe he didnt. He sure seems to portray it as he was sick of basketball. So i am going to take his word for it until real evidence comes out to the contrary other than messageboard rumors (often from guys who were like 8yrs old when it happened).

Just so we’re on record here. I don’t like or dislike LeBron, he’s very much ‘meh’ to me. He’s a phenomenal basketball player who seems like a good dude but has a very douchey personality. Would not want to ‘hang’ with him

Bron boys, however, are the most annoying sports fans in the world. Worse than Yankees fans and Barcelona fans combined

The NBA's players have decided to resume the playoffs, source tells ESPN. Today's three playoff games will be postponed, source tells ESPN. Discussion underway on when teams will resume play.

How wrong is it for people that will now think/believe - It's nice the players showed they cared about the "injustices" (for a few days at least) but we now see that playing Basketball is really what is more important to them. At least for now it is.

I say, sure the players did an admirable thing - on the spot - without giving a whole lot of thought to it.
Now they are pretty much in a lose/lose situation.

If another black person is killed by police before the playoffs are over, is that the last straw, NBA playoffs done?

That is a fair assessment, he can definitely be douchey at times. although i would ague fighting illini fans rank right up their with the worst of the worst fan bases (similar to UK but with far less success, so it is always "everyone cheats other than us" and for this offseason they now pretty much have decided they were locks to win the national championship because their 2 best players dropped out of the nba draft).

I think the move was a bunch of pointless fake advocacy if they just postpone and then resume. That does nothing.

Sounds like a few teams wanted to end the playoffs...most of the others didnt...and the teams that wanted to end it clearly dont want to boycott bad enough to forgeit their series and let some other team win the title instead of them.

Big eye roll. Oh well. Nice gesture i suppose. Doubt any of the dead peoples family's feel much better. Doubt any real change occured because of the games not being played for a few days.

I've never had a worse experience at an actual event than with Kentucky fans.
Even MIZZOU fans are better.

No. They just showed they dont truly want to end the playoffs. They just wanted to get patted on the back for pushing games back a day or 2. Maybe i am being too skeptical. Just seems pointless to me.

If you want to boycott then i truly get it. But this was silly and did nothing.

I am extremely confident another Black person will be killed by police before the playoffs are over.
It all depends on if it becomes "viral" and "high profile".
My guess is the answer to your question is - we would see ANOTHER "postponement" of the season.

It's interesting. I 100% believe what you (and others) say is true in regards to Kentucky fans but I have had multiple experiences with Kentucky fans both at games and not at games.
I have never found them to be that much worse than most fans of other schools/teams/programs.

It all depends on who you follow and what comments you read. The anti-LeBron MJ fans are just as awful in my opinion. James' name gets thrown into so many conversations that have absolutely nothing to do with him than any other player I have ever seen.

I think the analogy would work better if his dad died from something presented/assumed as problematic and solvable instead of natural causes ( heart attack ).
