as has been the case for decades

i’d be curious to know the national level of support for Jesse Owens giving the symbolic finger to hitler

Take it to the Track and Field Politics thread. No Hitler talk here.

This thread is dumb
“I don’t remember anything he said, but it was a very memorable speech.” Julian Wright on a speech Michael Jordan gave to a group he was in

1,819 topics on the site, so about 90 are not dumb. I say we find the 90 best threads, and stick only to those topics.

Or, I can go into NFL tax policy by giving up its 501(c)(6) status a few years ago. That's political, right?

Well, but then you or I will make a social point on one of THOSE threads, and we start winnowing the 5% down until it's nothing, and then what.

So tax policy!
Here's a primer of why the NFL gave up it's status as a 501(c)(6)

https://time.com/3839164/nfl-tax-exempt-status/

I think I would have waited until congress or the E-Branch forced the NFL's hand. The breaks seemed well worth holding onto the status for several more years. Seems like Goodell wanted to move everything to more secrecy without the status, which I think the NFL should be more transparent.

In the context of the politics bored, I WISH there were conservatives around who actually wanted to engage in reasonable dialogue.

In the context of something bigger, I can’t help but wonder whether social issues are bubbling over in sports precisely because they’ve otherwise been historically suppressed by the shut up and dribble crowd.

This is a Kansas SPORTS message board.

"Get the latest Kansas sports on Kansas Crimson. Find the latest basketball scores and statistics and discuss with Kansas fans."

As far as larger context, that is certainly a large reason why the players are promoting politics ( social issues are politics ) into their job. And because their employers are giving them free reign to do so, it's become a very big point of interest, instead of the fact the Superbowl champs may have actually gotten better.

It's not for me. I consider sports entertainment.
If I put on Spotify to listen to some music, I don't expect to hear about how the musicians feel about animal cruelty.
If I go see an action movie, I don't expect the actors to break character and narrate about human trafficking.
If i'm designing or coding a site or app or animating a movie at work, I don't get to add my personal views of the conservation of the planet into the project.

If those musicians, actors, athletes want to use their personal platforms to inform others about their views ( just be careful that your views align within the current liberal range of what is acceptable because if not, you very much run the change of loosing said job ) that's great and they should.

You created this thread because you felt people were being off-topic in a thread that was about the Kansas City Chiefs.

The lines are yours to draw, of course.

If the politics board were deleted there would be less than 25posts per day on this site on average during basketball offseason or non chiefs game days.

Right now there are probably 300+ posts per day on the politics board alone?
