As far as larger context, that is certainly a large reason why the players are promoting politics ( social issues are politics ) into their job. And because their employers are giving them free reign to do so, it's become a very big point of interest, instead of the fact the Superbowl champs may have actually gotten better.

It's not for me. I consider sports entertainment.
If I put on Spotify to listen to some music, I don't expect to hear about how the musicians feel about animal cruelty.
If I go see an action movie, I don't expect the actors to break character and narrate about human trafficking.

If those musicians, actors, athletes want to use their personal platforms to inform others about their views ( just be careful that your views align within the current liberal range of what is acceptable because if not, you very much run the change of loosing said job ) that's great and they should.
