I don't remember anyone's name from the jobs I didn't accept.

Why is that "wild"?
A few former KU beat writers are hell bent on making a story right now--even if there is not one. Kinda weird.
That part is strange. Tully and Ryan Greene leading the charge right?

Yes. Tully has turned into kind of a mess post-KU beat.

The weird part is his large assumption that Jesse, the LJWorld staff, et al. aren't doing their jobs. Pretty bold for a guy that hasn't been able to get a real journo job in years.

Yeah. I think Jesse and Benton do a fine job covering KU football.

Another weird "for instance" is Mike Vernon tweeting out that there is a mass exodus at KU football while quote-tweeting Erin Dunston announcing that she accepted the same exact position at The Ohio State Football Program.

I hate this term, but that's some fake news.

I literally replied to him and said, "For Ohio State, I don't blame her." Why would you stay at Kansas if Ohio State calls?

You could drop, what, 2-3 ladder rungs in position going from KU to tOSU and it's still a promotion? Certainly a pay upgrade.

A definite pay upgrade and status upgrade too. I didn't get his tweet.

They fired one assistant and 2 assistants (1 OC) left for equal-ish jobs and one on-campus recruiting coordinator left for a definite upgrade which is a good position for the visits, but they still have a person who is still really good at the job that can fill that role. 4 positions left. It's not like half the staff left.

I wouldn't call it a mass exodus. It's a fairly typical thing that happens. Just always scrutinized because of the turnover for the last decade and on-field struggles.

Sounds like for at least that narrative they are REACHING at best.

Controversy sells (or improves click rates) so in this market KU is a big draw. Work whatever angle you can.

But that's what's weird. They don't work this market anymore. They don't even write about KU football. Some don't even write at all anymore.

Maybe they're spot on, it's just weird that this twitter crusade is being led by them.

Mike Vernon stirring up more shit. Director of recruiting leaving to go to LSU under the same role. But yet, things are falling apart.

Maybe it's just a sign that Miles and Long know what they are doing and hiring really good support staff?

Okay, I didn't know that so that is weird. Maybe Miles still has clout left to his name or there actually is some shady shit going on. Knowing KU football it is probably the later and whatever small positive momentum we had will blow up completely in our face.

I mean, he’s been average, but still far better than Zenger. Baby steps, I guess.

It was be nearly impossible for Long to do worse than Zenger did. He almost single handily broke KU Athletics during his time here.

I wonder if Miles has been advised to make it public, probably more embarrassing than it is legally damning, give some sort of heavily PR crafted statement and proceed as usual. As long as there isn't anything that comes out that is wildly inappropriate so few people care about KU football that this will all blow over in a week or two.

See, I thought about this too. And I think this is what it ultimately will be.

He’s odd. He’s a bit goofy. He thinks he’s very sly and cool. And he has some of those tendencies.

But he’s also a lifelong football coach who wears a hat weird, and is a true dad with all of his dad-isms and actions.

Yeah. Spot on. And not quick at reading his audience as he aged.
