if we are going to buy oil, i would rather we buy it from canada.
OVer 60% of our crude oil comes from there. 1.3% from Russia.
https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.wsj.co ... 1646151935
more like 8%
but again, not the point. Our direct imports of Russian oil arent the reason for price increases...its the world demand and further limiting of supply options.

It's also not that historically bad. These numbers aren't even inflation adjusted:

it is now, that chart appears to stop at Feb 2022. Yesterday we hit an avg of $4.14 a gallon which would break the record from 2008.

Ahh, yeah.
That said, $4.00 in 2008 is $5.33 today. So now is fairly bad, yes. But not record high. And still a bit less than most of 2012-2014.
... although I don't know how to factor in the fact that gasoline itself can be a contributor to a higher CPI... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Hopefully people bought USO when I said to?

a gallon of regular gasoline got as high as $4.18(or so) back in 08, in my part of the world. today it sits at $4.25.

right....locally it varies....but we don't use specific localities as measuring sticks for the nation.
im at 4.83 as of yesterday for a gallon. Which, means nothing for this conversation.

it means that when i go fill up i will pay $4.25(minimum) for a gallon of gasoline. that is all that matters for this conversation. how it affects the folks when they go to fill up their tank.
you think soccer mom, that is paying $75 to fill up the minivan, is thinking past that. searching for your bigger picture.

what you (or anyone specifically) pays to fill up is entirely irrelevant to this conversation. We are a nation of 300+ million, not a nation of 1. What prices are averaging nationally, and why, are the subject of this conversation. There are too many individual anomalies specific to each state and locality to use any 1 specific place as the litmus test for the economy.

my truck isn't 70k, isn't lifted, doesn't have swampers on it. I dont use it to show my kids anything. It is necessary for my employment.
I wish you would show up and contribute in any meaningful way beyond insults and failed attempts at showing people how much better and cooler you are than everyone else.

Ha! My wife has a loud mouthed parent of one of her students who is an aggressive Trumper. He was complaining about how much it costs to gas up his giant F250 pickup that he bought to drive an hour each way to work.
Fucking moron. Maybe that's why you got such a good deal on your giant truck.

I would bet that your "my work requires it" puts you in the minority of the owners of gas guzzling trucks and SUVs.

Talking/arguing about gas prices is about the most boring fucking conversation possible.
Which is bad enough by itself, but it's made even worse because it's just a diversion/distraction for the lemmings.

He could do his job with a Rivian and/or a F-150 Lightning. Maybe even a Ford Transit or some other electric vehicle while pulling a trailer.
This is the point the intelligent people in this thread (and others) are trying to make. That the technology is getting to the point (extremely close in many cases) to where we no longer need the majority of people to be driving gas vehicles. That's not to say that everyone in the US can (or should) immediately sell their gas vehicle for an electric one. Obviously that transition is going to take years to complete, but it needs to start.
But he doesn't care about that, he only cares about whining and complaining about the poor farmers and truckers who NEED that fuel. It's just such a weird tantrum to throw every time this conversation comes up.
