Re: Jay Wright Stepping Down
It’s probably nothing, but I wonder how much this has to do with NIL. Some top coaches leaving within a few years span of each other and transfer portal destroying and rebuilding rosters. Coaches have to be tired of that.

Wright at 60, while not ancient, is still not a spring chicken. K and Roy were ancient. '
I'm sure they don't love the latest changes, but those guys have dealt with beyond the basic annoyances of recruiting, everyone entering early, then high schoolers skipping out on commitments, then AAU and prep school takeover, then one and done, then everyone using the grad transfer. GM landscape has always been changing

Hat tip to him. Class act and assembled some absolutely dominate teams...especially in the post seasons.

Arguably the best in-tournament coach alive

it creates a lot of chaos but a lot of opportunity. is really bad for smaller and less prestigious schools, because any player they discover and develop can leave once they start to get some hype. then the schools like kansas benefit the most cause we can come along and pluck away these good players from other schoolsNewtonHawk11 wrote: ↑Wed Apr 20, 2022 10:26 pm It’s probably nothing, but I wonder how much this has to do with NIL. You're clearly arguing to argue.BasketballJayhawk wrote: ↑Wed Apr 20, 2022 9:39 pm I don't see how this adds any pressure to Self. We are superior to Nova.
Since 2007 nova has been a 9 seed 3 times, a 12 seed 1 time, a 6 seed 1 time, and missed the tournament 1 time.
Wright was the only other active coach with multiple titles. He's been to 4 F4s.
The majority of titles have been won by programs we are superior to. Being better than someone doesn't mean they're not a threat. They knocked two of our best threats to win natties out of the tournament.
If it weren't for Wright, self might be celebrating his 4th title.

It will be interesting to see how long time coaches adjust to this new world of transfers and NIL. It feels like Tom Izzo is the next coach who may hang it up out of frustration with this new model.
Bill Self, on the other hand, seems to be maneuvering through it just fine.

Re: Jay Wright Stepping Down
kudos to wright, great coach. i'm guessing he saw the circus around K and wanted no part of that, as he's no attention whore; also, how K was a skeleton out there and thought now might be a good time while i can still do stuff. good for him.
Re: Jay Wright Stepping Down
Better to retire a few years too early than a few years too late.

No. I just disagree with your opinion.PhDhawk wrote: ↑Thu Apr 21, 2022 12:27 amYou're clearly arguing to argue.BasketballJayhawk wrote: ↑Wed Apr 20, 2022 9:39 pm I don't see how this adds any pressure to Self. We are superior to Nova.

Parrish is a garbage writer, lol. Just an i.e.
“But the truth is that a larger number of great college basketball coaches are probably going to spend the coming years and decades making enough money in their 40s and 50s so that they can leave it all behind at an earlier age than the previously expected-retirement-age for great college basketball coaches.”
That’s a “truth?” He’d fit in pretty well around here. Should maybe check with his anonymous sources again.

It's like the Royals with Hosmer, Beltran and Damon plus others. You get em, develop them and then can't afford them. I guess we get to be the yankees in this one.randylahey wrote: ↑Wed Apr 20, 2022 11:11 pmit creates a lot of chaos but a lot of opportunity. is really bad for smaller and less prestigious schools, because any player they discover and develop can leave once they start to get some hype. then the schools like kansas benefit the most cause we can come along and pluck away these good players from other schoolsNewtonHawk11 wrote: ↑Wed Apr 20, 2022 10:26 pm It’s probably nothing, but I wonder how much this has to do with NIL. Have we fallen into a mesmerized state that makes us accept as inevitable that which is inferior or detrimental, as though having lost the will or the vision to demand that which is good?
Re: Jay Wright Stepping Down
Well it is true that they will make more money faster. It’s how you read “so that they can”. Doesn’t necessarily mean they will but they have the option.

But when did wild ass predictions become truth? It’s pretty clear that Parrish’s profession has changed much more than coaching college sports.
