if you REALLY want story time details, it was that this homeowner's kid was a D1 athlete, and had several of his jock friends over for a BBQ (not like barbecue barbecue, just like burgers and brats, but you know what I mean. They were hanging out in the back yard, and my idiot friend tried to flee thru the back. So the dad yelled to stop him, and all the athletes with better conditioning and superior wingspan were able to corner my buddy before he was able to hop the big backyard fence.
but for the record, I like totally was NOT the one wondering where my buddy with the beer was at, then sitting nervously in the getaway car up the block as cops arrived.

It didn't sound like the guy was running from the cops so I doubt he would have fought the rescue attempt that he was specifically requesting.
Did you watch the video? He didn't request help until he realized he couldn't swim quite as far as he thought. He'd have drowned himself and the cop if the cop went in after him without help nearby. It's not that easy to tread water for two people, or to keep yourself above water when a drowning person is pulling you under.
The cops should be fired for what they said, but not for not swimming after a crazy guy.
"He'd have drowned himself and the cop if the cop went in after him without help nearby."
That's a major assumption on your part designed solely to fit your opinion on what should have been done. He might have, he might not have. People get rescued from water all the time without causing others to drown with them.
"It's not that easy to tread water for two people, or to keep yourself above water when a drowning person is pulling you under. "
Grab the guy by the collar and swim towards shore. No clue why he would just sit there and tread water; he wasn't out in the middle of the ocean.

so if illy was just chilling in the back yard of his nice suburban digs with all his teammate bros, and suddenly some high school punk comes sprinting around the side of the house with illy's dad in pursuit screaming "STOP THAT THIEF!", some sons might try to stop the kid...but not illy! sign him up for the flop-and-feign response.

If you don't like blood then don't be a doctor.
If you don't like touching gross stuff with your hands then don't be a garbage collector.
And if you want an easy job where your life is never on the line in service of others then don't be a fucking police officer.

Seems the police in Tempe should considering hiring this guy for when their citizens are in danger.
Definitely hero behavior.

Nobody garage hops a house where a party is going on.
Make up more believable stories. You're a pathological liar.

well, there's plenty of careers more dangerous than policing, for which your life may end up on the line.
but to distinguish from your comment - yeah cops can have dangerous jobs, and while their life may be on the line in some unique situations, how likely is it on the line in the service of others?
Some Dirty Harry shootout, maybe; or an auto accident resulting from a high-speed pursuit, sure. But how often do cops die from like, trying to save a drowning victim? Or trying to stop a school shooter?

You know you can find the answers to your questions online, right?
So, pretty much anyone who actually DOES something is at significantly more risk than police of being injured or dying on the job.

"As for law enforcement, many of those deaths were not by firearms. In 2020, for instance, 145 were from covid, 48 were from firearms, 44 were from traffic-related incidents β and 172 were from other causes, NLEOMF said. So only 12 percent died from firearms."

Moreover, in the military, not all deaths are from firearms. Deaths by accident exceeded deaths by hostile action in all but five of the 20 years. In fact, over the last two decades, 8,740 service members, or 34 percent, were killed in accidents compared with 5,445 (21 percent) in hostile action. Itβs unclear how many hostile-action deaths involved firearms.
The military death figures show about 22 percent of the deaths are from suicide.

didnβt yβall know that if you get killed by an earthquake in cali, itβs your fault for moving there?
or that if you get killed from gang violence in chicago, itβs your fault for being there in the first place?
