We used everything from sparklers and flashers to Roman candles, spinners, fountains, rolls of firecrackers, and aerial bombs. The whole display lasted about 40 minutes and the grand finale was pretty impressive. My friend was so excited to be able to ignite fireworks, and he knew that I was in graduate school, so he paid for everything . Sometime around 2008 or 2009, Lawrence banned most fireworks within the city limits. We stopped making the display but I have some pretty cool videos from our efforts.
Videos or it didn't happen!

I live in a piece of shit city that used to "host" one of the best fireworks shows/displays in the county on the THIRD of July in Grant Park along the lake.
Assholes who couldn't behave themselves ruined that for everyone.
Then the city tried to have a more controlled show/display on the 4th of July at Navy Pier. Nope, assholes couldn't keep themselves from ruining that too.
This 4th of July.... NOTHING from the city of Chicago in terms of "hosting" firework/s shows/displays.
To me, that's some sad boo sheet!

the 4th of July has to rank third on the list behind:

1. Christmas
2. Thanksgiving
3. 4th of July

it is 3 on the list only because Christmas and thanksgiving are so awesome.

As a kid, the 4th was my favorite. Blew the crap out of army forces from a swingset. Bottle rocket fights. Home made ice cream. Memorial stadium display.

My favorite 4th was driving to Lawrence from KC and it had just gotten dark. Fireworks all around us the whole drive. It was super cool.

They are loud. They drink alll day. They have cornhole tourneys. They let off fireworks when the sun goes down. Our group tends to grill at 5, have wine ( sans me ) and clean up by 7. Judge hard.

I wanna go over and peace offer bc our house generally don’t roll like that but the difference I don’t think is nearly as much as people make it. The toughest part is being humble I think. Not every time but most times.
They are all back.
Probably 15-20 vehicles deep on a .33 acre lot.
I love it. MIL does not.

I get along with JKLivin types in person.

They sound fun as hell.
They must have an annual cornhole tournament bc they play from noon to sundown.

And everyone here goes to bed at like 9 and that’s when they start the fireworks so I’ll be out on the porch enjoying probably a 2k display.

The Patriot is on.
It’s not very good ( barely any historical accuracy attempts - the British didn’t fucking lock the doors to a church and burn women and children alive ) but it’s one of the last revolutionary war movies they put any money into.
Would love another attempt at something serious.

( Turn and John Adams good series )

Give me a movie like Lincoln but for Washington. Directed by Spielberg.

Have we fallen into a mesmerized state that makes us accept as inevitable that which is inferior or detrimental, as though having lost the will or the vision to demand that which is good?

Hm.
Yea.
You dont need the whole cornhole board, you just need the posts and horseshoes.

I do like the better knockout chances of cornhole though. Better team sport.
