Videos or it didn't happen!defixione wrote: ↑Tue Jul 04, 2023 9:44 am In the early 2000s a friend would fly in from SF and spend the week prior to 4th of July helping me build a Rube Goldberg panel of various fireworks. We used everything from sparklers and flashers to Roman candles, spinners, fountains, rolls of firecrackers, and aerial bombs. The whole display lasted about 40 minutes and the grand finale was pretty impressive. My friend was so excited to be able to ignite fireworks, and he knew that I was in graduate school, so he paid for everything . Sometime around 2008 or 2009, Lawrence banned most fireworks within the city limits. We stopped making the display but I have some pretty cool videos from our efforts.
I live in a piece of shit city that used to "host" one of the best fireworks shows/displays in the county on the THIRD of July in Grant Park along the lake.
Assholes who couldn't behave themselves ruined that for everyone.
Then the city tried to have a more controlled show/display on the 4th of July at Navy Pier. Nope, assholes couldn't keep themselves from ruining that too.
This 4th of July.... NOTHING from the city of Chicago in terms of "hosting" firework/s shows/displays.
To me, that's some sad boo sheet!
