Flops called consistently I like. Somehow, there will be a Duke exception carved out.

Good rule. Not sure if in practice it makes things much better given the refs' subjectivity. Will that be reviewable the same way a flagrant foul is?

I do hate flopping, but it seems like it's less of a problem in college than NBA. College's much bigger problem seems to be getting teams to score points and rewarding junk defense. The block/charge rule is abysmal, lane is too congested, shot clock is too long, and then too many free throws at the end of halfs. Inject some flow into the game.

Good question whether it’s reviewable.

But that, and the technical whistle and ft, all stops gameplay.

Re: some flow into the game, my first reaction was the flop rule should instead just be a no-call. Instruct refs to not reward whistles for that shit.

Once opponents are getting easy buckets cuz teams are trying to play D laying on the floor, teams will stop trying to play D that way.

But curious to see how this technical foul rule works out either way

I'm with you as that would mean getting rid of the secondary charge call, which is abysmal.

But, the primary charge should probably remain a rule. So, inevitably you're going to have some Marcus Smart-ass falling down after the guy he is defending breathes on him.

The shot clock is exactly where it should be.
Any shorter and you'll have more forced shots.
This is college/semi pro.

They are LONG overdue to moving the game to 4, 10-minute quarters. Plus the Elam ending.

Not sure if joking with Elam ending.

Only reason that makes sense why they haven't is because it would cut out 2 media timeouts.

Shot clock is fine as it is. Not sure about going to quarters. Every other level has it, would take a little getting used to.

Definitely not. If you want to take out the slog that is the end of games with all the clock stoppages and free throws, the Elam ending is the answer. Four quarters would help that but the Elam ending would fix it for good.

That is THE reason. How many years ago has it been now that they changed women's college basketball to quarters? 5 or 6? They've experimented with rules changes like that in the NIT as well. Men's college basketball is the only level of basketball that just plays two long halves. Time to bring the game in line with the way it's played all over.

I'm totally for it. It's way better than intentionally fouling and free throws both from an excitement viewpoint and overall spirit of the game.

Imagine if it was the other way around and we already used the Elam Ending. Proposing that instead of that, we should make it so the only way to come back is to intentionally do something against the rules because the penalty is so minor that it's worth it would seem crazy.

Super gross gimmick for me.
Worse than a man on 2nd in extras.

We'd also likely have one fewer natty.

I definitely get your point, and there's a good chance I would even agree with you for the NBA.

But, for college, as a KU fan, there's just so few games and minutes for Self to teach things in-game or get minutes for the bench to develop. I think we probably want every minute for the team/program, even if 1/3 to 1/2 of the games are unwatchable in the last 10 minutes.

Seems like crazy talk. I would be in favor of calling intentional fouls down the stretch though.

I'd also add, you remove the element of time, then shot clock buzzer beaters, like Chalmers, are not a thing. Overtime isn't a thing.

Time increases urgency and drama.

4 quarters would help out the slog of foul fest. Fouls reset after the quarter, so no bonus for like 13 minutes in a half. It would get rid of 1 and 1's (which entices teams to foul). Free throws would start after 4 fouls in a quarter, so it takes less time for teams to play "catch up" to the bonus. It also would make it less likely that you get into the bonus in either the 1st or 3rd quarter. End of halves seem to get a little more bogged down.

I think it fixes a lot and would slow Elam ending chatter.

That would be awful imo.

Keep that with the big 3 and TBT.
