I usually drink Miller Lite when I want a shit beer at home. I don’t like Bud OG or High Life, but don’t mind some Cooooooors Light, with the Banquet beer being the most overlooked of all the big boys.

I'm not saying/implying I disagree with you (because I felt there were SOME good things that came from drinking) but I'm interested to know what YOU feel good comes from drinking that can't/doesn't come from not drinking.

Drinking goes best with cocaine. Like peanut butter and jelly.

Drinking has been around for centuries.
It is a great social tool to help bond humans.

Having a few drinks, before you get too drunk and can’t remember things, lowers inhibitions and increases happiness when you’re in a social setting. Drinking is a unifying element much like breaking bread. On top of this, drinks have different flavor profiles that can pair with or without food. For me this is a good thing.

To say nothing good comes from it is way off base for me.

1st sentence - Yes.
2nd sentence - I agree 100%. That's why bars exist and alcohol is served at social functions. But... for those who don't drink, all those things can exist and people can still bond without alcohol being involved.
3rd sentence - True and false. I agree but.... I'm not a medical expert so I am not going to say at what levels and why it has different affects on different people but.... alcohol can actually worsen anxiety and alcohol can be/is a depressant.
4th sentence - Yes. But... as you said, much like breaking bread.
5th sentence - Yes. So does lemonade and juices, ice tea, coffee, soft drinks. etc. Fortunately I have those alternatives to alcohol but no doubt different alcohol/s can "pair" with foods.
6th sentence - Perfectly said. For you it's a good thing - and I don't for one second doubt it.
7th sentence - Like I said, "because I felt there were SOME good things that came from drinking".

Of course you can bond without alcohol involved but there's no doubt the bonding experience is different, and for many livelier, with it involved.

I'm sure there are endless couples who ended up meeting and falling in love and wouldn't have if alcohol wasn't there as an icebreaker. The same can be said about close friends. One could say, well, they weren't 'themselves' so is that a good thing? I say fuck yes it is.

I do think the current drinking culture ( Western cultures i'm looking more at you ) has more bad than good.
I used to judge people who didn't drink and egg them on. Yea, that's dumb.
On the other side of the coin, those that don't drink and make a big stink about those who do responsibly are still wet blankets.

I do think overdrinking and alcoholism is a major problem.
I think some people probably don't have the mental makeup to be drinkers whether it is addictive personalities or it just affects them negatively ( anger/anxiety/depression ).
And I do think even people who can handle it and don't have addictive personalities can still overdo it.

As Shirley coined, 'everything in moderation and that includes the number of times I look in the mirror'.

I like beer.....and whiskey.

I have significantly reduced the amount of times and the amount per time that I consume. I'm older, have kids, I don't recover as fast as I once did.

I could probably give it up completely and not worry too much about it but there are some times when it's just...really nice to have a few and relax.

It makes being around people easier at times. I especially don't like drunk people when not drinking.

Yup.
I've given it up for weeks/months at a time and say, yes, this is fine, and I lost some weight, but sorry, for me, it's just better having a few drinks to relax after a week of work.

( I typically drink only on Friday evenings and Saturdays - the occasional Sunday or special occasion weekday/holiday being an exception )
