Bluesky
Re: Bluesky
by the Meta algorithm supressing real-time discussions, I mean, if you go to search for breaking news or a current event anything happening in real time, or a #hashtag, you don't get real-time discussions. You get algorithmically-curated clickbait.
The thing is, the real-time discussions is part of what made the old Twitter great. Then, Elon's dumbass went scorched earth with the twitter staff who, and twitter culture that, made things like real-time discussions actually work.
The feature never worked quite the same again. For a while it didn't seem to work at all. And by the time it kind of started working again, the place was overrun with alt-right bros and spambots and lacking in the actual legitimate users that made the real-time content good.
Another factor at play: ads, ads, ads! Wasn't it an issue with Twitter that they couldn't figure out how to make money off of it? Ads are inherently intrusive, and pull one away from a real-time user experience of an online discussion. (might as well have surveys!)
Meta's become overwhelmingly ad-dominated. I guess Zuck figured that much out for the sake of shareholder value, but he's continued to miss the boat in terms of user experience. That's why his goofy little Threads never took off, despite having SO many advantages - the capital, the tech, the hundreds of millions of users itching for something new at that very moment.
And that's part of what's making Bluesky the hot new thing...maybe?
Bluesky takes it a step further yet, and gives users options as far as how they want their feed curated. There's chronological, reverse chronological, a totally random thread, the option to prioritize people you actually follow, and even a reddit-style option to see the "most liked" comments.
And, after so deliberately engineering these sorts of features OUT of the Facebook/Insta user experience, now that Bluesky seems to be getting it, gee look who's late to the party yet again:
"how and if"
he's so out of touch one could almost feel sorry for him, but for the whole Evil Rich thing.

FCC approves license for T-Mobile and Starlink to provide coverage in remote U.S. - report
The Federal Communications Commission has approved a license for T-Mobile (NASDAQ:TMUS) and Starlink to provide supplemental coverage to extend internet access to remote areas in the U.S., Reuters reported on Tuesday.
"The FCC is actively promoting competition in the space economy by supporting more partnerships between terrestrial mobile carriers and satellite operators to deliver on a single network future that will put an end to mobile dead zones," FCC Chair Jessica Rosenworcel reportedly said.
The satellites have direct-to-cell technology to work with T-Mobile's network to expand coverage and is the first such partnership to receive such approval, the report said.
SpaceX and T-Mobile were allowed by the FCC last month to enable Starlink satellites with direct-to-cell capability to provide coverage for cellphones in areas of North Carolina hit by Hurricane Helene.

The folks who voted for this will need to figure out who they can blame while their bones get picked clean by the geniuses they put blind faith in.

I assume you get to blame him for 10-15 more years, right?
Cause, you are definitely gonna need someone.

"One of my roommates told the farmer about the fox, and showed the farmer a video of the fox eating three of my roommates, and burping that's good chicken! afterwards. But the farmer said that the rules posted to the outside of the coop say that the fox can't get in trouble for what he does inside the coop.Overlander wrote: ↑Tue Nov 26, 2024 3:48 pmAwesome.jfish26 wrote: ↑Tue Nov 26, 2024 3:39 pm"My roommates keep saying something about the fox. This is all very confusing, because I remember the farmer being the one who let the fox back in the coop after the fox was kicked out before. And also that rule seems to have been written in hen blood (which is still sticky), but the rest of the rules were etched onto the wall decades and centuries ago. In fact I think there was a "no eating the roommates" rule that is now written over in hen blood. I don't know, that part was boring and hard to follow.
But rules are rules, and I wouldn't be a good resident of the coop if I didn't respect the rules.
After all, they were handed down from the farmer's ancestors, who discovered this virgin land in 1764."
