Congrats on using military resources, at 3x the cost of traditional deportation flights.

I have zero problem with illegal criminals being deported, Biden has deported thousands upon thousands of them already.

I just want US citizens to not have their rights violated, state resources to not be misused and military resources to not be misused.

Then we'll all sit back and enjoy MAGA workers bringing in the next harvests and building houses. Wait, no, we won't. We'll just sit back and pay a lot more for a lot of things.

But "it's the economy."

A potato field, flush for harvest.

The morning dew gives way to an army of lifted trucks blaring Lee Greenwood. The glean of Oakley shades flickering under a sea of red MAGA caps.

They will fucking OWN this potato field. “Somebody crank up that Toby Keith song and bring me a few more bottles of Perrier, it’s getting warm”

“Holy Christ, it’s fucking HOT out here!”

“What time is the Rudy’s BBQ truck due to arrive?” “It’s only 10 am?!”

After 5 hours, Mr MAGA potato harvester learns that he actually made pretty good progress. Now it’s time to choke down the lunch you really should have thought to bring on the dusty 3 mile trip to the next field.

“Hey guys, only 5 more hours!!!!”

"You have millions of gallons of water pouring down from the north with the snow caps and Canada, and all pouring down and they essentially have a very large faucet. You turn the faucet and it takes one day to turn it, and it's massive, it's as big as the wall of that building right there behind you. You turn that, and all of that water aimlessly goes into the Pacific, and if you turned that back, all of that water would come right down here and into Los Angeles."

this is one of the dumbest things I've ever read.

it's huge but must be well hidden. I've spent lots and lots of time in the PNW forests and hills and been all along the Columbia from Colville to Astoria and never seen a hint of such a thing.

I texted my sister and brother-in-law, Colonel Illiniwok on Saturday. I asked them if they got the weird cryptic email Friday morning from OPM on Friday morning. My sister said "yes", all it really said was "test" and "reply with "yes" if you received this."

She said it pretty much shut down the DOD on Friday morning as everyone was asking up and down the chain of command if this was real. Do we have to reply? Is it safe to reply? How did they email 3,000,000 of us simultaneously and get all of these emails into one list?

So pretty much 3,000,000 federal employees in one somewhat important federal department went into a state of panic and shut shit down for over an hour trying to figure out WTF? Remind me, what does DOGE stand for?

Then she wanted to know, how did you hear about this?

Well, millions of people outside of your media bubble heard about it Friday. It was in my newsfeed.

Yes, Colonel Illiniwok voted for trumpty plumpty because he thought, "he would be better for the economy." My sister disagreed. Both of them work remotely for the DOD. It's about time for them to start showing up at the office or retire early.

Sieg Heil!

Imagine expecting people to show up at work and do the jobs they are being paid to do.

The nerve!

I say this knowing multiple people who work remotely and regularly use work hours to shop, cook, clean, run errands, etc., all of whom insist that they “still get everything done,” but who balk at the notion that they can “get everything done” and be available to help with other things if their focus is on work at work.

...are we there yet?
Some steelmakers in Canada and Mexico are telling customers that they are refusing new orders to the U.S. on concerns that President Donald Trump soon will reimpose duties.

Canada’s Stelco has been telling U.S.-based consumers it is pausing sales quotes, according to a person familiar with the matter. Mexico-based steel suppliers also stopped taking orders for material this week as they await potential action from Trump, according to Flack Global Metals, a large buyer.

Trump this week signaled plans to impose previously threatened tariffs of as much as 25% on Mexico and Canada by Feb. 1. While the two countries are exempt from a sweeping 25% steel tariff the U.S. imposed during the first Trump administration, there’s increasing concern in the industry that the metal won’t receive a carve out.

“There’s a lot of trepidation and changing commercial policy by the Mexican steelmakers with regards to their approach to this market,” Jeremy Flack, chief executive officer of Arizona-based steel distributor Flack Global Metals, said in an interview. “They’re off balance because of this. They’ve gone from concerned to unconcerned to concerned again.”
chaos....it's great fiscal policy, great for the economy!
Canada is the top foreign import source of steel into the U.S. and Mexico is the third largest, according to U.S. Commerce Department data. The U.S. consumed about 91 million tons of steel in 2023, with imports accounting for about 27% of that total demand, according to research by Morgan Stanley.

Stelco parent Cleveland-Cliffs Inc., based in the U.S., didn’t immediately respond to requests for comment.
Sieg Heil!

In my profession, even when I was in the office, if you were very good/effective at your job, you could end up getting something done hours, hell even days before you expected to.

You'd offer to help with other projects but some of them wouldn't need your expertise so you were just there at your desk with no tasks. Spending 30 minutes doing your laundry or doing an errand in that down time is no different than browsing the internet at your office desk looking at kansascrimson.

Now I get the benefit of having people come in for certain professions or for certain moments of the work week. I think a schedule that benefits both employer and employee and makes sense and not some blanket "EVERYONE HAS TO COME IN BECAUSE WE SAY SO" statement because some moran thinks it's more efficient and they said they would do it.
