I still can't believe that Dook beat them -- and then beat us.

Roi put a hurtin' on Dean, and then we lost to Ratface.

I'll never forgive him for that.

Now, this would only make your spidey sense tingle a bit if you had any reason to think the NCAA had the capacity for being extremely petty, shortsighted and disproportionate.
who, them? Naaah. *eyeroll*

The rest of the world can see this for what it is: a model that was always built on greed and lies being further exposed as a sham, with palatial dorms and weight rooms built and coaches receiving multimillion contracts and shoe companies paying hundreds of millions as part of a multibillion dollar industry centered on talent that only a fool, or the NCAA’s rules, can believe shouldn’t be paid.
This is where I will beat a dead horse and again shed light on the absolute trashiness that is the fact that Udoka, being one of the biggest stars in a multimillion dollar entertainment industry, has seen his mom one time in the last 8 years all because of NCAA rules.
^^^^^^^
This would make an awesome tv commercial to play during the tournament. The anti-NCAA commercials to run a long with the “most of us will be going pro is something other than sports” commercials that the NCAA pays for.
There could be an organization like the truth.com is to tobacco.

In all of those other sports, you can get paid for things outside the arena. I think at least a trust fund shuld be set aside for all athletes. Maybe the NCAA will spend all of its revenue dispersing money to its athletes after their "amateur" status lifts. Cause they love the athletes so very very much.

Oh man, if I had fuck you money I’d be very very much on board for this.

I don't think we'll be seeing him again.

And, of course, I expect a full-throated response from the NCAA, along with a comprehensive investigation.

My favorite part is how UK fans are in blame-the-whistleblower mode, saying the real problem here is the Louisville fan who called it out, and that the vid itself doesn’t matter cuz it’s an old vid from “a couple weeks ago.”

Meanwhile, anyone else who pays any attention to college hoops would have been surprised UK players aren’t getting cash by the handful.

Oh, and how often do we see a college player take a leave of absence from playing?

The only times I can recall are due to injury, eligibility, or Lagerald Vick.

Might as well file it under the "nothing matters" thread on the Pol board, but: this is your reminder that we're on NCAA death's doorstep for (1) a player who never played a game for us, and (2) a guy who sat out a year over $2,500 (after getting cleared initially), and who never even knew about the payment.

Wait, so who conducted probes, and what were the results?
Just catching up on this thread but "there're"?

Honestly, Clay Travis is such a boob. Sensationalist journalist making sweeping conclusions over some kid's snapchat.

Players do get cost of living funds each month (recall that we withheld Selby's to pay his restitution punishment). You save a couple year's worth, it can total up to a couple thousand in cash or so.

Not that Hagans isn't dumb for posting it, especially in this environment. But, the situation is most likely benign.

Wasn’t there another Kentucky player a few years back who said something like “Players get anything they want at Kentucky” then had to walk it back?

We aren’t clean, but the reality of what’s trying to be proved is amazing to think about, isn’t it?

Perhaps, but youre less cynical than I am inclined to be.

And that is a lot more OK as a message board poster than a national "journalist" with a very visible platform.

There are a lot better takes out there than Clay's fan the flames shtick.

If we're betting, and you take this explanation (along with any other "benign" explanation), and I get the field, I like my chances.

Also fair.

As a cynical person with a non visible platform i think this reeks of impermissible benefits.
