It's true. Bidunga is just far less experienced and has much to learn. But his added athletic ability is a nice change of pace when we throw him in thereDeletedUser wrote: ↑Wed Nov 27, 2024 10:03 amBidunga is worse at nearly every aspect of defense other than shot blocking. He's a mess in pick and rolls. He fouls and doesn't stay vertical. HD is better at blitzing and trapping.
The best defensive stretches we had last night were with HD in the game, not out of the game.

I sure hope he stays patient and does 3 or 4 years of college. I think he could develop into an elite college player.

Flory brings not only athleticism but energy as well. Sometimes that energy can be contagious. I really like the small glimpses we get of the energy Passmore brings when he gets in. Of course KJ is the epitome of always bringing the energy.
Re: Dookie game
HD gets tired at the end of the stretches he plays and his performance can drop off significantly when he is a little gassed (see his missed dunk last night). He went out after that for a few minutes and was much better when he came back.randylahey wrote: ↑Wed Nov 27, 2024 9:44 amIm not sure he makes as big a difference as people think, on either end. His defense has been a lot better this year than I remember. He changes our play style a lot. Sometimes our offense flows better without him being a focal point to. We are much better offensively overall with him, but we lean on him too much sometimes and it creates less balance and flowDeletedUser wrote: ↑Wed Nov 27, 2024 9:40 amI'm not sure our defense improved with him out.Back2Lawrence wrote: ↑Wed Nov 27, 2024 8:17 am Re: Self’s comments about Poise, Toughness, and Defense.
HD being ejected could prove invaluable. The fact that our defense improved significantly with him out (as most here knew it would with right talent level on roster) won’t be lost on Self. I don’t think HD loses playing time, specifically, but it will be easier to not have him in (potentially) moving forward, given game situations.
But we can get by without him in an 8 minute stretch with lots of timeouts and breaks. We can't afford to not have him for a whole game
I just don't think his conditioning is up to where Self ultimately wants it yet and it impacts a guy his size more to be a.little out of shape. Thats a lot of mass for tired legs to move around.
Re: Dookie game
how many dunks has HD already missed this year?
It's mind boggling

Re: Dookie game
More than zero, which is how many a 7'2" player should miss. It's crazy. Last night definitely was not the first one of the season.

Accurate. Bidunga and HD will compliment eachother big time because of thus. HD can give you about 5ish minute stretches of high energy ball where he is actually rotating well on defense. He wears the other teams down being a focal point. And then when hunter goes to the bench, instead of catching a break, the athletic freak energizer bunny checks in
Re: Dookie game
Bidunga is way ahead of where I thought he would be at this point. He stepped up knowing full well that there were 10 minutes left and he didn't have the safety net of "HD will be brought in if I goof up and foul 3 times in 5 possessions".randylahey wrote: ↑Wed Nov 27, 2024 12:45 pmAccurate. Six points, 8 boards, clutch free throws, some key defensive plays. Too many turnovers but not all were his fault. I am a big fan of Bidunga for sure.
Re: Dookie game
Free throws are vital to winning these close ones. 11-12 from the line. How many close games have we seen them lose when they miss 8 or more free throws?twocoach wrote: ↑Wed Nov 27, 2024 12:50 pmBidunga is way ahead of where I thought he would be at this point. I will be expecting a check comparable to what FNBO is paying KU.
Re: Dookie game
Yeah, for the most part the right people were drawing fouls and getting to the line. The one time it wasn't the right people drawing the fouls was when Bidunga got fouled on an offensive board and missed the front end of a 1 and 1 in a tied game with 6+ minutes to go. Glad that didn't bite us in the butt.AlOerter wrote: ↑Wed Nov 27, 2024 1:17 pmFree throws are vital to winning these close ones. 11-12 from the line. Re: Dookie game
in real time, I remember thinking Zeke's jumper/floater with 1:58 left didn't beat the shot clock.
I just went frame-by-frame and, with the shot clock in the upper left of the screen, took screenshots for the last frame with a 1 on the clock and the first frame with a 0 and...well...glad they didn't review that shit.

Where's the one with a zero on it?
