That’s cuz both major parties are in the pockets of corporations.

We need a people’s party.
Ya we do.

But the cynical side of me thinks it wouldn't take long for the leaders of that hypothetical "people's party" to be in the pockets of the "major corporations".

NewtonHawk11 wrote: Mon Oct 12, 2020 8:33 am Hear me out on healthcare thing. I think US should have a system similar to Hong Kong. Healthcare provided by government at little to no cost, but you get basic doctors that graduate from a weaker med school like equivalent to kstate and basic coverages. You then pay for additional coverage through private sector if you want high end hospitals, doctors that graduate from KUMed, treatments, etc.

That way people are covered, but then you still have free market healthcare for those that want to pay extra and have extra stuff. No straight socialism, no straight capitalism. Take both and morph it into one big plan.
Healthcare has three major components: quality of care, access and cost. Unfortunately there is no good way to get all three. In most civilized countries they have optimized for the quality and cost with some sacrifices to access (eg. you have to wait a bit to get a miniscus tear fixed). Germany has a similar system to the one you suggest but not with schlock doctors.

Employer sponsored healthcare is the worst thing which happened to the US

Ice Cube is what Russian disinformation has wet dreams about: "a pox on both houses. Why vote? Progress is too slow. Nobody cares about my unique set of interests." Bullshit. The best you can do is incremental change in any society unless you follow the Animal Farm playbook and start a corrupt revolution for your exclusive interests.

What most Americans do not recognize is that the establishment just wants a president who will continue pushing into unnecessary wars. War is good business for many involved. Biden/Harris won't even try to push back against anything they want. The media will then call the anti-war candidates "racist", just like they did to Ron Paul and Trump.

Fear mongering is a tried and true political tactic.

In 2016 it was all about how our borders were being invaded by illegal immigrants and we needed more secure borders....4 years later, no giant wall has been built, border security is only magrinally better at best...and still haven't seen any signs of the invasion that was coming. Maybe they all got lost?

In 2020 it is that Biden will abolish the police and do away with "law&order" to let anarchy reign supreme across the country. He will shut the entire country down forever and staple masks to everyones faces. Fake mail in voting is rampant and the election isn't legit.

I agree that fear mongering exists, but some of these things you mention are actually happening. The lockdowns are set to go forward into 2021 in California (stupid idea), and at least some parts of California have proposed defunding the police. They are not proposing to defund all police, but any kind of reduction is a terrible idea right now with all these riots going on. Right now, Harris is trying to use fear mongering to tell them that their health care is going away, despite no evidence of anything changing. She's telling us "you cannot take away people's health care at a time like this..." but yet she supports massive tax increases in a time like this.

Agreed that the fear mongering is used as a tactic by both sides. There were Republican Senators on TV today that said every single on of them wants health care for everyone and for all preexisting conditions to be covered. And i agree that they should.....but not by traditional insurance companies and private health insurance plans.

There needs to be an option for both. You can't have the government dictating terms of coverage to private health insurance companies. That drives the cost up astronomically for healthy americans insurance plans. It doesn't work. That forcing of coverage is why my insurance cost has tripled or quadrupled since Obamacare was implemented.

The problem is that trump had 4 years to come up with a plan designed similar to what i have just referenced and he hasn't done it....now they say they have a plan, but i don't really think they do.

We need major healthcare reform, and it certainly is a multifaceted and complicated issue/process to get there.

The fear mongering is because the Republicans all say they will do something for pre existing conditions to make sure EVERYONE has affordable healthcare.

Now, the problem is that the republicans haven't come up with a plan to do that...and if they have the certainly haven't told anyone about it.

I tend to agree with overturning the ACA. I do not think forcing insurance companies to cover high risk individuals makes sense. There is a reason actuaries exist. It fucks up the whole business model. It makes insurance costs skyrocket for everyone....what they need to do is have a medicare for all type model for EVERYONE who wants it that covers those who can't afford private health insurance and those who have pre existing conditions that make them previously uninsurable thru traditional private healthcare insurance.

Again, the problem is they have had 4 years to come up with that plan/model and they haven't done it.

I do NOT agree with overturning the ACA until there is a plan/model in place to IMMEDIATELY replace it so that NOBODY is left out and doesn't have affordable healthcare.

they’ve had waaaaay more than 4 years

there have been more than 70!!! attempts by republicans to overturn the ACA

70!!!!

70!!!!

i’ll say it one more time...70!!!

edit: and, much like the current SCOTUS shenanigans, pubs aren’t doing what the majority of their constituents want

It does sound like Trump has no plan for health care. The problem is the ACA does not work without the mandate. Insurance companies rely on those healthy people buying insurance in order to offset the costs of sick people. I'm all for removing the mandate and removing the ability to charge for pre-existing conditions. No one should be forced to buy private insurance, and I don't think these companies should be allowed to charge higher or deny coverage if they are the only way to health care. However, it's not going to work in the long term because you wouldn't have enough healthy people buying insurance. In 2021, people are going to look to save money and even more people won't be able to afford it. What is the solution though? That's whole other topic where more than one option could be debated.

Fwiw when i say overturn ACA i am not talking about the supreme court. I would prefer our legislators do that together because they have created a new and better plan for EVERYONE.

and there’s the rub, illy

they don’t have a better plan, and never have. so, they’re relying on the SCOTUS to legislate for them
