LOL.

Not a chance.

Why would he downgrade jobs? Kentucky is a superior basketball school. One of the top 3 or 4 head coaching jobs in the country.

Kentucky fans are so stupid.
Yes, a chance. A decent chance. Why do you feel not a chance?
Why is the job a downgrade? Right, in regards to basketball tradition Kentucky is superior but you don't believe Texas has a superior athletic program? If he's offered even more money than the absurd amount he is currently getting paid, why don't you feel he might leave UK for UT?

Yea, after how last year went, watch them pick our game as the one they finally look like a contender full of a bunch of NBA players in waiting.

Now somebody go ahead and roiboi meter me up.
if the end result from last year holds true, i wouldn’t care less if they win
I'll forever believe that that game really helped us. Wake up call for the players and Bill realized we needed to get some scoring from our 1 spot.
its your fault CNB that the past page of this thread about "rupp rafters meltdown" became about our starting PG. shame.

The same reason Self didn't leave KU for OSU. It's a significant downgrade basketball wise. Texas and Kentucky aren't comparable basketball programs imo.

No chance imo.

He's right about the downgrade.
I think Self and Cal are different dudes though.

"Downgrade" is moving from Lawrence to Stillwater.

Lexington to Austin, however...

Self was/is loved at Kansas. Cal is not loved at UK right now. I don't believe it's as big of a downgrade as you are making it out to be. If we are comparing the past, then sure UK is a much better program - historically. The problem for UT is they will be getting the same Cal UK currently has and I don't think he's the best guy they can get for the job.

Enough to offset the cost of living increase from Lexington to Austin?

Oh for sure, you'd much rather live in Austin, though traffic is getting out of hand.
But Kentucky is a blue blood program, Texas ain't.

Point being that the Self-OSU analogy fails on many levels.

I think Calipari leaked this to leverage his current situation at UK.

Does it really matter if you're making 8-10 million a year?

Not to mention, there’s only one reason Self took the osu interview, and that dynamic is not present at all in this situation.

If this is about money for Calipari then no it doesn't.

On an $8.6 million annual salary, it's a savings of $430,000/year. So...probably.

Probably not. And this isn’t about money, anyway.

Plus high profile people like athletes, coaches, actors, etc. don’t save as much on state income tax as some would believe.

not trying to give credence to any particular rumors.

but the thing about it all is, "downgrade" is the direction Cal is trending.

you think that gold toilet is gonna flush to somewhere better?

and again, just rumors, but if the Texas rumor does fly, it's cuz Texas has the ego and the money to make it happen, and Cal has the ego and the shamelessness to pretend going to Texas really is cuz it's a good place to be a hoops coach and not actually about seeking some haven that won't burn couches and chase him around with pitchforks every time he might stink it up a little, plus the $$$ might still be there too (not that it's about $$$)

besides, SOMETHING'S gotta give if the college basketball gods really are gonna bless us with Scott Drew to UK, right?
