Not for some dumbass reason like focus or thinking ahead. No. Because next year is gonna suck, and it’s just not fun to think about.
Because? NCAA?
Only indirectly I guess. But just look at the roster. Assuming no surprise returns, it’s just...a lot like this one, minus Vick and Dedric and plus nothing of immediate impact.
We might end up being ok next year if this season continues to crash and burn. Not ideal, though, considering where this season’s team was supposed to be at.

Agbaji is one of the couple bright spots. Kid is great, happy for him.

As for the rest of the team. .. might be the least interested, least interesting, least likeable, most frustrating team in 20 years.

I think the worst part is no one looks like theyre having fun or passion and as a result this isnt a very likeable, personable team. Its hard to watch.

I agree. This team is so frustrating to watch. I guess a little bit can be attributed to the inexperience of our freshman, etc. but it still seams like the entire team (aside from Abaji, and Dotson) doesn't play as a cohesive unit and plays without joy and passion.

Dotson was my other bright spot

Dotson doesn't always play well, but at least it looks like he is trying. Definitely can't say the same for Vick.

From the .com article on the lack of leadership...

"An irritated Lagerald Vick told his teammates in the locker room afterward, Dedric Lawson shared, that the Jayhawks aren’t any good on the road."

Really. REALLY. This team has completely lost its way if Vick is the one speaking up in the locker room after an embarrassing showing like last night. That same guy that is loafing on defense and 20 games into his SENIOR year he gets benched for a guy that started off the year red-shirting.

Maybe it was all of the shady recruiting news that came out before the beginning of the season but I can't remember when I least enjoyed watching a team play. I felt that way even when they were beating Marquette and Tennessee.

I will say Agbaji, Lawson, Garrett and Dotson have been the only bright spots this year.

The hate for Vick is out of control on this board.
It's kind of embarrassing.

2nd leading scorer.
EFG% at 61.
Better than Dedric ( and Devonte Graham, Svi and Newman last year ).

Better CrimScore and ( if you don't like my formula ) PER than anyone save Dedric and Ochai and we think we'd be better without him.

He's not the senior we wanted him to be, I get it - but to say we'd be better off without him is foolish just given what we know/see. If he's a locker room cancer, i.e. Brannen Greene, then maybe we'd be better off, but from what he's doing on the court, ya'all are morans.

I'm normally glued to the tv watching every thing like a hawk, analyzing every bounce, etc.

This year, I glance at my phone, walk into the kitchen to look for a snack, take a piss, etc during live action.

The players seem less interested than normal, and as a fan, I guess I am too. Just not entertaining. Not a lot of fun watching a team that can't really put the ball in the hoop. And the sloppiness, by both teams, last night looked like middle school basketball to me.

Hate is a strong word for me. Displeasure. Especially when I watch him play. Way to many times he just disappears. Two possessions were he forgets the shot clock. Come on, dude you are a senior you have to be smarter then that. Vick is who he is at this point. He was never going to be a consistent #1 scorer or a team leader and if that is what Self expected when he let him back on the team shame on him.

I can't bash a 21 yr old but I will for sure bash Self and his complete fumbling of this years team especially the lack of development of Grimes and McCormack.

I can't wait to watch Agbaji for hopefully another 2.4 years.
You can tell he's a player and loves the game and fights to win.

We know several of the reasons why. Some more justified than other.

But I do find it interesting that a large portion of the hate seems to be that he's the only player with the skillset we most need...perimeter shooting...and the reason for the hate is that he's not always good at it. But as we all know, shooters have off nights.

It seems misplaced to me to hate on Vick for not single-handedly being able to make up for our perimeter scoring deficiency. Seems like the blame should go on our other guards who can't fucking shoot for shit and Self for having a team that can't shoot if you defend one guy, which makes us incredibly easy to defend because then the only thing you have to worry about is Lawson.

Those two possessions he was given the ball with 4 seconds left, trapped in the corner.
"Hey Vick, you do something with it!"
Sure, he shoulda taken a poor percentage contested 3 - had he hit it, not a peep from most of you, he misses it? "Why is Vick always jacking up guarded 3's?"

Thank you.

Garrett is shooting 40% from the field and 23% from 3 and getting fewer rebounds than Vick a game and he's some sort of savant.
Dotson made 16 3's all season and is shooting the same % from the field as Vick and he can do no wrong.
We don't need to talk about Grimes or, oof, Charlie Moore.

Glad its not just me. I dont know why but ive lost a little passion this year and i am one the most passionate jayhawk fans around. Have been for 35 years. My buddy and i were talking about it the other day. Hes having the same experience. Its odd.

Judging by the board action this year I guess its more than just us.

And defenses know this now.
They cheat to Vick ( Kentucky and Texas had a similar plan for him - Bilas mentioned it later in the game ).
Sure, if he was Vonte, he'd find a way, but he's not.

Seems the same story every season on Vick. Everyone wants to tout the numbers, but his OOC numbers are always way stronger than his conference and postseason numbers. More often than not, he backs away from the moment. He's mentally soft, always has been, and that's why the numbers aren't there in the most crucial parts of the season.

For everyone saying that benching him is dumb, they're not wrong in that he's our best perimeter shooter and beyond the arc threat. Bill's no dummy, he knows this, too. But, the mere fact that Vick (a senior), despite being that what we need most, has now been sent to the bench twice this season before February says everything you need to know about him as an all-around player. On the court, off the court, whatever. That hate is not misplaced.

Maybe Vick plays harder than it appears, but he seems so tentative out there. Our only senior has not embraced senior leadership.

He had double the points in half the minutes than Garrett and Grimes combined and Vick is the problem.

And if we're talking just conference stats, he's 2nd on the team in scoring per game and per 40 minutes and shooting an eFG% higher than anyone but Ochai.

those stats say more about the others than they do vick

and those others aren’t the lone senior who has been in this program for 4 years...not to mention the privilege given to come back this year
