I particularly liked this line:

"...if you think about this whole thing less as a school with an endowment and more as an endowment with educational benefits, our budget adjustments start to appear quite reasonable, and you start to sound pretty crazy for even bringing up this endowment nonsense..."

Beaver getting called back to work. At a daycare.

He’s supposed to start zoom lessons next week, to prepare the kids to go back by the 8th.

He’s supposed change clothes and shoes as soon as he gets to work, and as soon as he leaves. Parents aren’t allowed in the school.

He’s supposed to keep the kids social distanced from one other, and keep them wearing masks.

With a bunch of 3 year olds.

We are prohibited to use Zoom because of security issues.

Good luck to B F.

The intentions are good. But, man, with the incubation period of several days, and kids being...you know...kids, it seems like a foregone conclusion that whatever any kid or teacher/etc. has, everyone else will be exposed to. Outside of like a hospital setting, I'm not sure it makes any sense to hope otherwise.

Yeah, the whole plan seems to be little more than “playing chicken with the outbreaks.”

And yeah, beav is pretty much Kenny from Half Baked.

And yeah, it’s a pretty dorky gig, but he’s employed full time year round and pays rent on time, which is more than I can say about some of the roommates I’ve had up here.

so apparently as a condition of returning to work, Beaver is expected to sign a waiver releasing liability if he gets the rona?

So, my last haircut was back in February. I couldn't take it anymore and ordered some clippers off of Amazon. Went out to the garage yesterday and buzzed everything. Maybe a little too short, but hey.

Amazing what we can/will do when we are desperate and put our minds to it.
Even though it's very easy to take a number 2 and go round and round on my dome, I typically pay someone else to do it for me. Used to give a shit about my hair - when I had a full head of hair. Last 15-20 years my attitude has been fuck it.
I smile because it's the one thing (their hair) since the "closing" that I know many people give a damn about - and I don't.

My office re opened Tuesday at 25%. Totally voluntary. The amount of protocol they require is so ridiculous it’s not even remotely worth going in.

TBH, I will probably be working from home until the Fall.

I was told I'm pretty much work from home the rest of the year, maybe forever, but I'll still have my cubical and can come in whenever I need to. Basically if you can do it at home please feel free, and/or if you need to come in please feel free. I have a unique function for my bank, essentially a 1 man department doing property valuations / commercial construction inspections / self employed borrower tax return analysis for mortgage lenders / managing our mortgage application website and administration of that website for our mortgage lenders....much of which is done outside of the office and/or can be done from home....i still go into the office most days for an hour or 2 to print/scan/make phone calls/check emails....i was never required to be there at 8am and leave at 5 anyway, but now its more official that I can work from wherever is easiest for me. We're a medium sized bank with branches all over Central/Eastern/Western IL, but i don't work in a branch, my office is mostly executives and has less than 10 people there when full (is now about 2-3 people most days) so even when full is still low traffic and quiet.

This is going to kill office real estate and boom real estate in rural areas if people can now work without driving to an office.

except for the whole rural infrastructure issue (internet availability)

my folks’ vacation home in the dakotas has better internet options (right on the edge of town) than their primary residence north of Lawrence

this pandemic should lend credence to the idea that internet access should be considered “essential” in the way public utilities are
