pdub wrote: Mon Feb 20, 2023 10:24 pm I think all those teams don’t have nearly the issues we do with ways they can score.

If Wilson has a game like this v a team that is feeling it, we are toast.
We have 4 guys who average 10pts+ per night. That's more guys than Purdue has.
They also have the leader for NPOY.
We would have some major issues guarding him.

And here’s the point—Purdue has a half court post game—we won’t have one this season. If we are struggling in transition or a team can stop us, we don’t have answers like we have with so many other Self teams in the past.
Have you actually watched much Purdue?

They have 9 games where they've scored less than 70pts. For reference, we also have 9 games with less than 70pts.

They have beaten a grand total of 3 ranked teams all year.

They have lost games to Maryland, Rutgers, and Northwestern.

I can do this for every team you can possibly bring up. We are ranked #3 for a reason.

We aren't competing against teams of Bill Self's past. We only have to compete against the other 22-23 teams.

Also: we have a post game, it's just not the traditional throw it to the center and let him try to score. KM scores the majority of his inside. As does KJ. Udeh is catching lobs now. JW scores a ton at the rim or at the free throw line. Every single team in the country struggles to score in the half court if they are missing shots. We are no different. Well, except we have the defensen to still win those games where we suck offensively.

Not arguing with you.
I don’t think we are the best team, you do.
We will see.

Blind eye test. Got it.

Mr. Stats doesn't like stats when they don't support his argument.

I suppose there is a distinction to be made between "best team when they play their rare game and hit their ceiling" and "team best suited to win 6 games in March/April".

I think we are the latter.

This team has developed a chip on it's shoulder. They wear it well. This is a Bill Self team if there ever was one.

Ho hum.
Just another year where Self deserves B12 COY but someone like 4th place finisher Tang will win it.

He hasn't been as obnoxious tonight though.
The cat's litter box didn't stink as much was usual this morning either, maybe it is a sign of Spring coming on? But I still watched the game with the sound off until there was 1:00 minute to go in the game.

and yet he still had 13 boreds

I think he's always been that utility guy.

The fact he can even kind of be a go-to scorer is just gravy

Wilson's Last 5:

12.4 PPG, 8.2 RPG, 1.6 APG, 1.8 TO/PG, 35.9 FG%, 23.5% 3FG

he's prone to taking bad shots. And/or prone to getting goaded into bad shots if the D is all physical up in him.

but last 5 games we're 5-0 so cool. and just realized many of his biggest games were also Ls.

Ochai seemed to cool off as the season ground on, and he still went 1AA, for the overall season resume and stuff

And our record over those 5?

I know what our record is those last 5.
Does not change the fact that those are all well below his season averages and that we could be even better if he was a. playing at a higher level or b. not taking as many shots.

Wilson forced some shots through contact yesterday. I like the intent because shots were a premium yesterday as they opened up rebound follows. The truth is, Jalen should have been at the line several times and would have had better stats with a game that wasn't allowed to go out of control physically. Lots and lots of hard contact on drives and elbow shots. He missed some open ones too almost expecting to be schwacked. The venue is terrible for all shooters.

There were two or three he definitely should have been on the line for.
Issue is, he tends to bitch to the ref and not get back on defense when that happens.
