The media overreaction reinforces the notion that the media is out to get Trump AND shines a spotlight on the fact that he's not wearing a mask, which enhances my first sentence.

He's the President of the United States. If he truly gave a fuck and it was important enough for him to know, don't you think he would use the resources available to him to learn if it is/was real, where the nursing home is, and how the victim is doing?

Not if he’s trying to generate discussion and interest. Getting people to participate in the story rather than being passively fed it is a good strategy.

without even knowing affirmatively wtf he's talking about yet, I'll guess it's some story with the potential to change the subject off his own job as potus, likely with some racial angle as well...

He has been very clear that states develop their own plans, which is how most people prefer the country to work. That strategy also forces Dem governors to own their overreach and big government/removal of individual liberties philosophy publicly, which is a good move in my opinion.
