the other side of that is, when you have a potus saying such things, and your response is the media is making too big a deal of it, it sorta comes across as being an apologist for potus.

and where is that line drawn? If potus refuses to wear a seat belt, or put on a PFD on a boat, or use a condom when banging porn stars, is the response still that the media's just making too big a deal?

He has been very clear that states develop their own plans, which is how most people prefer the country to work. That strategy also forces Dem governors to own their overreach and big government/removal of individual liberties philosophy publicly, which is a good move in my opinion.
