My first business trip was a driving trip through (mostly) Iowa, the day after the bridge over I-35 collapsed in Minneapolis. I was between my junior and senior years of college. Because I'd been at the site of the collapse and had taken some of the first pictures that made the rounds, I was on the phone with news networks much of the day (between sales calls).

The day was filled with oddities, up to and including (1) sitting for two hours with my face mere inches away from a photorealistic, full-size horse head toy (manufactured by customer) and (2) entering my boss' family farm home only to have his ~300 pound father sitting right there in his recliner in only his underwear. Tighty whities.

After dinner, we pulled into our Country Inn & Suites or something similar. Upon checkin, we went up the elevator to the top (third) floor. My boss swipes his key card and walks into the room. I follow him in.

He turns around: "What the fuck are you doing?"

It had never occurred to me that we wouldn't be sharing a room.

I do remember that from dotnet as well. Laughed just as hard now as I did then.

soo I was gonna ask this in the tourists thread, but since y’all killed that thread, let’s just ask here:

If you’re traveling and at your lodging accommodation the WiFi craps out, what is an appropriate reaction and response from a traveler?

This happened to me last fall in Madison, WI. They had satellite TV and internet and a monster storm going on. I went to the front desk to say that the TV and Wifi were out. They bought me drinks at the bar.

Ask what the issue is. Ask if it's going to be fixed. Suggest it should be fixed. If it can't be fixed, reimburse any feed that was paid for WiFi.

In some circumstances, if I was there for work and had to have it, being I'm a Marriott guy, I'd ask to cancel reservation and reimburse room rate and would ask for assistance at booking at another Marriott property.

Thankfully you're seeing it less and less, but one of the minor infuriating things about hotels is when they have a perfectly-decent HDTV...and shit-ass SD service.

While that's getting better, many/most hotel TVs still take way way way too goddamn long to change channels.

Wifi craps out? That could get ugly. I’m sure to many it would be identical to having no water.

If I am staying in a hotel, I am on vacation. I could care less if they have wifi or not.

I know MICH wouldn't believe it, me being a millennial and all, but I sure do wish being on vacation meant I was able to not care less about being connected.

You're not talking about wifi that doesn't require a password, are you?

Yeah that expression is weird but really only makes sense if it’s could not care less.
