Re: Automobiles
Your deflection sounds so guilty
Re: Automobiles
Of driving a big ass truck that one can not practically justify other than as compensation for where one feels small relative to their peers.
Re: Automobiles
Big pickup trucks weigh more now than they used to. I don't know why they allow tax benefits without proving they actually get used as trucks. Pickup trucks are less likely to come with safety features that cars and SUVs (you know, people haulers) do. Pickup truck collisions are more likely to kill other drivers and pedestrians in accidents.
Re: Automobiles
I drive a Ford Explorer. A relatively basic one at that.
I'm married. No need to attempt to overcompensate. She's seen it (my penis) already.
It's big enough for a wife and 2 kids (the Ford Explorer, not my penis...although I guess my penis was big enough to have a wife and 2 kids as well).
Although I have done some Ag RE appraisals and/or farm visits where I wished I had a large truck to drive around the property more easily. But the old Ford Explorer has gotten the job done so far.
I do have really nice golf clubs though. Because I enjoy golf. Not to overcompensate for my penis size. I wouldn't want to fuck any of the guys I golf with anyway.

Re: Automobiles
you think the consumer should be required to fill out a questionnaire before they are granted permission to purchase a truck.
Re: Automobiles
I don't think a questionnaire is necessary. Just a quick viewing of the penis to make sure it meets Cascadia's minimum (maximum?) requirements for ownership.
Re: Automobiles
Pickup trucks have exemptions from certain things like gas mileage minimums and required safety features because they are supposedly used for work rather than carting kids to school. If you are buying a less safe, gas guzzler, that is more prone to kill others, and claiming the purchase as a work expense, I'd like to see more than a questionnaire. I want some proof you actually use those tall tires and big engine for work purposes before you get the tax benefit.
Re: Automobiles
Not many jacked up/tricked out long bed trucks, 3/4 ton (or larger) trucks, or cargo vans in my school pick up lines.DrPepper wrote: ↑Mon May 23, 2022 12:27 pmPickup trucks have exemptions from certain things like gas mileage minimums and required safety features because they are supposedly used for work rather than carting kids to school. It's usually the more common trucks. The ones that don't get the large tax benefits via section 179 deductions.
But maybe the little dick fellas in your area are tricking out f-250s (or similar/larger) and cargo vans?

Re: Automobiles
Trucks are kinda handy especially moving shit.
When I do yard work, we only have one day a year where the city picks up brush and it's mid April.
So instead of just loading a bed of a truck up with brush, I have to clip the brush to get it so it'll break down to fit either in bags or on a tarp low enough so it'll fit in my Subaru.
A truck would be great for that but it's not practical for other reasons.
Someone who has to move shit around a lot - a truck makes a ton of sense.

Re: Automobiles
pdub, that is interesting that your city does not offer yard waste pickup if it is a city with yards. I'm so happy I get services in return for my taxes.
Re: Automobiles
There is a large office of structural engineers nearby. Those folks wear suits and commute to work in big ass trucks. Boggles my mind.BasketballJayhawk wrote: ↑Mon May 23, 2022 1:07 pm But maybe the little dick fellas in your area are tricking out f-250s (or similar/larger) and cargo vans?
Re: Automobiles
fuckin Japhy!
Im guessing you make choices in your life that are absurd to them.
there's a whole lot of self righteousness swimming in this thread.
All I did was ask a question about the preparedness of the grid and if we're significantly better off needing to increase the consumption of fuels to meet increased grid demands. Or...if we need to get the horse before the cart and work on our power supply before we make grandiose statements forcing everyone into these changes by X date.
never did I think that would lead to a discussion about the phallic suffienciency of a structural engineer in Buffalo.

Just Ledoux it
Re: Automobiles
It could be small bodies or small investment accounts.
A generalization could be argued that structural engineers were relatively nerdy in high school. Those big brains got them big trucks now.
I also carry some distaste for structural engineers in general (which could be extended to all areas of civil engineering).

Re: Automobiles
if you live in buffalo you need a truck to get around in the winter.
Re: Automobiles
I recently bought a truck just for that purpose. Nice to haul mulch, get rock/stone, etc. I also needed a trike hauler rather than relying on my younger brother to drive from west Shawnee to Brookside and then drive to Perry Lake. Kind of a PIA for him. I bought his 2006 Toyota Tacoma with an extended cab, 4x4, etc. High mileage, but the thing looks new. He just bought a 2022 Honda Ridgeline, which is a great truck. I still have my Audi A4, the truck sits outside on the driveway, although I do have a cover for it and it has a tonneau cover for the bed.pdub wrote: ↑Mon May 23, 2022 1:29 pm Trucks are kinda handy especially moving shit.

Re: Automobiles
I live in Maine.
While, yes, Buffalo gets around 15 more inches of snow a year then where I live, I don't think those 15 inches ( hey-o!, penis size jokes ) warrant enough for 'need a truck'.
I don't need a truck in the winter.
I get around fine and have driven in back roads during blizzards in my non truck.
Re: Automobiles
I don't know anyone who needs a truck for winter. People drive Honda Fits in Buffalo and their clearance is <6 inches (ok, I looked it up: 5.3 inches (more accurate penis joke) of ground clearance; ~2500 pounds).
I don't know what this vehicle is. I wonder what the driver uses it for. If they kill a pedestrian, statistically it will most likely be someone they know.
