The Biden administration announced today that it will waive 26 environmental, public health and cultural resource protection laws to fast-track construction of the border wall through the fragile Lower Rio Grande Valley National Wildlife Refuge and neighboring lands.

Among many concerns, wall construction in this area will harm recovery plans for endangered ocelots, which depend on contiguous wildlife corridors of protected habitat along the Rio Grande.

sigh…
Have we fallen into a mesmerized state that makes us accept as inevitable that which is inferior or detrimental, as though having lost the will or the vision to demand that which is good?

I would conceptually be ok with this, if I wasn't nearly certain that all that's really happening here is we're spending a lot of money and doing a lot of damage solely to make certain groups feel better.

But. The most important action we need to take is to stop incentivizing illegal immigration. Stop giving them housing and care. Start deterring it. "Inhumane" actions would work best if you want to be realistic and go down that rabbit hole

and that’s the thing…there is ample evidence that walls just don’t work

it’s the definition of insanity - doing the same thing but expecting a different result

The sad part is I’m not sure anyone’s actually expecting a result. This is pure politics.

Let’s put a pin in this one for next time I’m accused of thinking Biden walks on water.

I think many border hawks don’t have a solid grasp on how much BETTER the worst lives are here as compared with average lives in poor countries.

I don't think that Biden has much choice either, given the Right Wing chorus yammering about the border. Maybe will move some other policies. But a wall is pretty stupid when you see the actual economic issues which drive immigration. And the climate change we helped really drive.

Meanwhile, if the border hawks have their way, we’ll pull aid from Ukraine and also put boots on the ground in Mexico. Bang-up plan, folks.
