Press conference Wednesday at 10. Goff has a great opportunity to have the KU job for a long, long time. Let's freaking go.

If Goff wasn't a KU-guy I'd be pretty underwhelmed with the hire; it's not hiring a position coach as your head football coach type of thing, but you know...CrimsonNBlue wrote: ↑Mon Apr 05, 2021 12:19 pm I am fine with Goff, but that move doesn't by any means guarantee us a top football coach candidate.

Agree. Jones is getting 2021.
I don't know about that, but Goff is going to get at least several weeks on this to interview his candidates.
It's not crazy to think that going out and hiring Monken or Leipold right now would immediately pay dividends this fall. There is talent on this roster. Those coaches have experience over Jones and could win us a couple games and be competitive in a lot more. Now, I think we could wait until after the season and still hire Monken or Fritz. Leipold is the one you have to worry about getting a better offer if you let him coach Buffalo for 2021. That's another reason I wouldn't risk it. The results of treating 2021 like a throwaway year or a tryout for the interim coach could be a disaster. Yes, the players love him and want to play for him but that's not enough. Put the right coach in place and the players will be fine.holidaysmore wrote: ↑Tue Apr 06, 2021 9:06 am If Jones get 2021 that will be a mistake. Potentially a huge mistake. If you have the chance to get a Monken or Leipold you get either one of them RIGHT freaking NOW.
Yes, and I'm not sure what would make the job more attractive now than when Beaty took it. The roster is in a little better shape, but overall, the job is a big frickin' mess right now.
I agree. But, agents.UnholyLivingDead wrote: ↑Tue Apr 06, 2021 9:37 am The top 3 names that keep coming up (Monken, Leipold, and Fritz) aren't just message board fodder that fans are throwing around. Their names keep coming up in coaching circles as being both interested and good fits for the job.
You're not that far off for sure. But it seems that these names are for real this time. Genuine interest. I mean Monken mentioned this job as one that he doesn't have a buyout for.CrimsonNBlue wrote: ↑Tue Apr 06, 2021 9:39 amYes, and I'm not sure what would make the job more attractive now than when Beaty took it. Leipold just received an extension and raise just a year ago.CrimsonNBlue wrote: ↑Tue Apr 06, 2021 9:40 amI agree. One thing that came out in the Long deposition was that there were names that absolutely no one was talking about as serious candidates. Candidates that he actually met with. And, names that were speculated on by coaching circles and message boards that he never met with.
I think if Monken is interested now, then he would have also been interested each of the last two openings. Obviously, same with Fritz. Liepold would have been nowhere near the radar.NewtonHawk11 wrote: ↑Tue Apr 06, 2021 9:48 amYou're not that far off for sure. But it seems that these names are for real this time. Genuine interest. Agree. I think Monken is ready for something new. He accomplished some great things at Army like beating Navy, giving OU a run in Norman, pushing Michigan to OT. He is ready now, I think.CrimsonNBlue wrote: ↑Tue Apr 06, 2021 9:55 amI think if Monken is interested now, then he would have also been interested each of the last two openings. Again, not saying they aren't interested, just that I don't think we are rounding third base with any candidate right now. This is Goff's call.
I have also read that he has said if he would move to P5 that he would run more of a spread offense. Mixed feelings on that. I don't want the option, but I think he would need some major help to play a spread.NewtonHawk11 wrote: ↑Tue Apr 06, 2021 9:58 amAgree. I think Monken is ready for something new. I've heard that as well. He's going to have option concepts though to his offense. He's been involved in an option offense for like 25 years. That won't go away, but he knows he won't be able to get guys here if he runs a triple-option offense.CrimsonNBlue wrote: ↑Tue Apr 06, 2021 10:00 amI have also read that he has said if he would move to P5 that he would run more of a spread offense.
