Wtf just happened in Ohio?

Girl allegedly called cops cuz she said she was threatened with assault? That’s why she had a knife. But not sure if she’s confirmed as the one who called.

When the cops shows up, there’s a ruckus, people fighting, but it doesn’t seem like anyone even acknowledges the cop, until he sees the girl with the knife as she’s falling away from him, and unloads into her back?

Within seconds of arriving on the scene, and with no apparent attempt to gain understanding of the situation, much less deescalate.

Then as protestors show up at the scene, cops there chant back “blue lives matter”

Literally 10 minutes after the Chauvin verdict read too.

Even cops in the body cam footage looked at the guy like "What in the hell did you just do?" But man that's a tough thing there. She attacked people that came to her on her property, but she also had a knife and was about to stab one of the girls.

I said this a few years ago and it still rings true. Being a police officer is one of the hardest jobs in the world. But being a racist cop is one of the easiest jobs.

I think this police officer had a tough choice to make. He probably ultimately made the right decision in shooting to prevent people from being injured, but it's going to look really bad considering the optics of everything.

The girl with the knife was attacking two other citizens. I would certainly rather this end in a non-lethal solution but not quite sure I feel that this was totally unjustified like many other cases.

How does blue lives matter apply if the cop wasn’t even the one being threatened?

But apparently department policy says cops can use deadly force if protecting themselves or a third party

...leave it cops to say it’s a matter of protecting the community to shoot someone in the back.

But yet if the police officer stands by while someone is stabbed and could potentially die, then he's screwed too.

It's literally a lose-lose.

Train cops to use lariats. Win win.

Looks like that one may have been justified.

Of course, the "Blue Lives Matter" comment shows what kind of mess we are in.

I'm no cop, but I think there's better places to shot a 15 year old woman that doesn't amount to a fatal shot. Like the cop wasn't in danger. Either a warning shot, or a disabling shot. Or, a taser? Or just anything else than four in the back.

True. Agreed.

Also, maybe dont stab someone on the sidewalk in front of the cops?

I mean you're not wrong. And perhaps since everything moved very quick, he missed his initial target. Maybe he didn't. But I think he had to fire. And the end result really sucks.

Ohio’s stand your ground law takes effect on April 4, 2021. When it does, the use of deadly force in self-defense by Ohioans will be justified under the following circumstances:

The person is not the aggressor
The person believes they are in imminent danger of death or great bodily harm
The person is in a place where they have a legal right to be (i.e., they are not trespassing)

https://grahamlpa.com/2021/01/14/ohio-s ... round-law/

At first glance, she seems to fail two of the three requirements.

Since we always like to play the "what if it wasn't a cop," were it me and the person being attacked was close family, I'd fire those 4 shots in a heartbeat (and probably miss, but besides the point), and feel justified in doing so, morally and legally.

I also think we are plain sick of seeing people die from police bullets and also wonder if this is not a situation for a taser.

I see this one as a totally different situation than other recent situations. Tensions are high and people are going to lump it in with the statistics...but its different. Yes, he couldve, shouldve, maybe shot her in the leg. If he delays to think about it does the other girk get stabbed? Does she die instead? Do we know any of those answers? Dont stab people in front of cops....or any time.....especially if you were the one that called the cops? ( if i read oussies synopsis correctly)
