I think it's silly, and small, that we claim the Helms titles. But the logic behind claiming them, and the logic of us treating 2020 the same way as we treat 1922 and 1923, are of a piece.

What is the difference between the Helms banners - which reflect the only real outside validation of who was the best team in 1922 and 1923 - and a recognition that...the only real outside validation of who was the best team in 2020, validates Kansas?

To, again, be clear: I'm not saying we SHOULD do this. I think it's petty and insecure and small.

But it's driving me nuts that anyone thinks there's a difference in the underlying reasoning. There's just not. They would all three be "self-declared" or "mythical" national championships, based on what outsiders declared/voted on.

And the only team that could claim 2020 is Kansas. Otherwise that was an exhibition season. And KU won the exhibition.
