Largest utilities by revenue in the US:
1) Pacific Gas & Electric
Vanguard owns 239 million shares (1st)
BlackRock owns 90 million (5th)
2) Southern California Edison
Vanguard owns 46 million shares (2nd)
BlackRock owns 88 million (1st)
3) Florida Power & Light
Vanguard owns 190 million shares (1st)
BlackRock owns 10.8 million (11th)
4) Consolidated Edison
Vanguard owns 41 million shares (1st)
BlackRock owns 1.6 million (6th)
5) Georgia Power - didn't find an up to date listing of largest shareholders
6) Dominion Energy
Vanguard Group Inc. owns 75.9 million shares (1st)
BlackRock owns 59.9 million (2nd)
The lists go on and on.... so is there any particular reason why you moan about BlackRock and not Vanguard? Genuinely curious why it seems to be only BlackRock that has been mentioned by you many times here. Are they a more left leaning group of wealth managers than Vanguard? Vanguard's donation history is more conservative than BlackRock's but not by a significant percentage. Just curious what has them stuck in your social media loop.

Re: Robert f Kennedy jr
Breaking news.... investment groups are in business to make profits. One way to make profits is to delay having to spend money on maintaining and upgrading your infrastructure so you can maximize the profits "now" while pushing the expenses down some the investors downstream of the current shareholders.
Who has the notoriously worst, most outdated technology? The government. Why? It's not because there is some nefarious plot to relocate to mythical "centralized cities". It would be a massive expense to build out the new infrastructure needed to support centralized cities. No publicly owned company is going to take profits out of shareholder pockets to build something that wouldn't realize profits for decades (if we accept the mind-numbing premise where these centralized cities were really being discussed outside of chatrooms for kooks.
It's because they are cheap and want the money for themselves. This results in corners being cut, experts being fired for less experienced but less expensive replacements and most of all it results in equipment and IT infrastructure not being properly maintained and upgraded. We are pushing the boundaries of what their disgustingly out of date mechanical and computer systems can handle.
There are two things on my "will not work for" list; a company that offers insurance as their primary service/product and a company that is owned by shareholders.
Re: Robert f Kennedy jr
Yeah, thanks, I could have gotten that myself. It doesn't answer my questions. Looks like "controlling interest" as you called it is owned by Vanguard as well. A better question is which dark money interests are backing Kennedy? He is a dismal figure pretending to be a pipulist like most if the Puting backed politicians vexing the world.

Point being that it is all intertwined. It is two heads of the same dragon. I’m guessing that if you were to dive deeper, it would just get worse. They are all WEF puppets, which is the really scary part.twocoach wrote: ↑Sun Aug 27, 2023 6:38 pmYeah, thanks, I could have gotten that myself. It doesn't answer my questions. Re: Robert f Kennedy jr
Unless you dismantle “capitalism” en masse how do you propose to prevent Blackrock and Vanguard from owning controlling interest in any company, utilities or otherwise?
Is this the Bernie-MAGA continuum wrapping around?

No, it's just pointless whining about how rich people own things.

I have no problem with people bitching and whining about BlackRock and Vanguard and State Street and etc., in regards to how those companies actually LEGITIMATELY have/had a negative influence on their life but I have a big problem with those same people not taking in to account how they may have benefitted from BlackRock and Vanguard and State Street and etc.

Right.
What exactly are the realistic alternatives?
I think there’s only one workable one, and it’s not gonna be popular with the “defund the Department of Energy” set.
Re: Robert f Kennedy jr
When these corporations start unloading their assets it will start a race to the bottom. But the good thing is that they own them unlike the upside down crisis of 2008.
Re: Robert f Kennedy jr
As I've mentioned elsewhere, I sincerely hope the Biden administration is mapping out (and firming up, such that they can't be tossed out) plans for what happens when a major reinsurer becomes insolvent as a result of climatological disasters.
Re: Robert f Kennedy jr
Great question. Wish I had a great answer. How does one make greed illegal?

I don't think anyone here wants that, not even the pinkest of the libs.

I will say that Norway owns its oil and mineral assets as part of a national sovereign fund and leads the world economies again in both standard of living, happiness and economic growth and indices. That is my populist argument: extracting oil and the derived income is something a nation should reserve for itself. Green energy will be something they can embrace without risk running at a huge surplus over the past decade. But again, even the cost of power is something they can retain for the people.
Re: Robert f Kennedy jr
norway chicks are h-o-t-t. so they got that going for them.
Re: Robert f Kennedy jr
Not sure if I would be a big fan of the government owning the oil and mineral rights to the land that I own.Sparko wrote: ↑Mon Aug 28, 2023 12:35 pm I will say that Norway owns its oil and mineral assets as part of a national sovereign fund and leads the world economies again in both standard of living, happiness and economic growth and indices. for every Norway, there’s a Venezuela
Have we fallen into a mesmerized state that makes us accept as inevitable that which is inferior or detrimental, as though having lost the will or the vision to demand that which is good?
Re: Robert f Kennedy jr
At least you’re honest enough to admit that it’s a vexing problem, one for which you don’t have an answer. Herein lies the problem with Libertarianism and, to a smaller extent, with “small government conservatives”. They want “free markets” until they don’t.
