Furphy listed 29th in latest mock draft. McCullar 20th. Pretty late pick for Furphy to chance staying in unless he really impresses at the combine.

this is supposedly a historic bad draft, but even then....I mean Furphy had flashes....and like what? A 5 game stretch where he looked like a competent high level college player.
Potential is a helluva drug.

Mass Street Collective better be organizing some NIL that gets around the student visa issue....

My personal opinion is that even just on draft position alone - before you get into NBA readiness and how that plays into what a second contract looks like - he's got a lot of headroom that makes a return worthwhile.

"a fart in the wind" will be the most accurate way to describe his career at KANSAS. if he leaves after 1 season.

It would he nice for him to announce a decision so that recruits and transfers know what is going on. Same with HD.

the mens basketball banquet is probably this week. so things will start to come into focus more clearly.
i'm guessing the exit interviews take place right after the banquet.

I am really surprised McCullar is so high in these mocks. I'd take Furphy over him in a heartbeat. McCullar is better right now, but injury prone, way older, and not a good shooter.

McCullar is more proven than Furphy.
Furphy definitely has more potential but you know you could get bench minutes from a healthy McCullar right now.
Furphy, no way.

Of McCullar's 5 seasons in college he was injured in 3 or 4 of them. Healthy is a big if. I am glad he's going to get paid, but we've had better players than him fail in the NBA so I don't see him being a rotational piece for a team.

Yea, healthy is a big if.
But again, if he is healthy he's a better defender than Jalen Wilson and showed, again, when healthy, just as good offensively.
And Jalen is outplaying his draft position.
That said, I am not a fan of McCullar anymore so don't really care if he drops.

A not-small part of me wonders whether shutting it down was to stop the bleeding on his shooting and preserve an argument that he actually GOT better (not just that he DID better in a small sample size).
I believe the bone bruise was in the 1/22 game against Cincinnati.
Up to (and including) that game, he shot 53.7% from the floor and 36.5% from 3 - both material improvements over 22-23.
After that game, he shot 45% from the floor and 25.7% from 3.
If his true talent level is 22-23ish, he's a second rounder (or undrafted) as a total package.
If his true talent level is his pre-injury 23-24, he's a first rounder as a total package.
What I'm saying is that, regardless of whether that post-injury 23-24 dip was
because of the knee, or whether it was simply regression toward the mean (being his true talent level), or (most likely) a combination of both, you at least can see pretty clearly why he might want to freeze the narrative at the injury.
I am NOT saying that makes him a good or bad teammate, or a good or bad person, or any sort of value judgment. Just that this is the sort of thing that plays into decisions.

If he did do that, which I don't find wildly far fetched, and shutdown pre March Madness to stop the bleeding, I am saying that makes him a bad teammate, without a moments pause.

With a 80% McCullar I think there's a slight chance we beat Gonzaga.
We stayed in it ( were winning! ) in the first half.
But we weren't beating Purdue.

I wonder how much Furphy likes life in the US...maybe he figures that if the NBA doesn't work out he can always go play professionally back home.

I don't think Joel is a bad person.
I think he was a bad teammate for the last month of his career at Kansas.

I think it's complicated.
What is fair to expect of someone in this situation, where the short-term risk is measured in seven figures, and the medium- and long-term one potentially eight?
If your answer is that we shouldn't want guys with pro aspirations playing college basketball
at all...I'm not looking to reopen that front, and so I'll let my prior opinions speak for themselves on that. Truly not looking to refight old and worn battles.
But what should be expected of anyone - any of us, even - in a situation where what's at stake is this significant?
