The NCAA will pay more than $2.7 billion in damages over 10 years to past and current athletes, according to sources.
I honestly hope a big fat check goes to Silvio.
Heck, I hope they just pay Billy in Camaros!

good lord. The speed with which they have destroyed college athletics....
I remember when I was assured it would never even sniff this level. I mean it's just the same opportunities as all the other students.....right? right?!?

Contracts by 2026.
Specific “courses” for players directly related to the sport which are glorified film sessions and ungraded by 2027.
Salary caps per sport by 2028.
Mega 64 team league by 2029.
We are so close!!!

This was an I told you so move for most of us.
What's next? Allowing professional athletes to compete in the Olympics? Oh, wait. Sorry!

If you check this thread it was more of I told you so for a few of us.
Originally when NIL was green lit several posters thought it would just be that—students having part time jobs of sorts instead of now, the sport a full time job.

The NCAA played stupid games. This is exactly the sort of stupid prize it was bound to win.

Part of me wonders if this isn't at least partly so the schools/ncaa can take back some control over the money to ensure they're getting "their fair share" of these NIL dollars that they currently get none of. I'll be curious to see what the stipulations are that they impose when they start paying the players directly.

No doubt the NCAA fucked this up.
But let’s call a spade a spade—this is pro basketball for younger people playing on teams with college mascots and it’s going to suck.

no, it wasn't the choice of the schools it was a lost court battle

In a narrow sense, yes this was an emergency settlement that the NCAA agreed to to stop the bleeding.
But in a broader sense, yes absolutely it was a choice to fight the tide until it washed over them.
There were decades of opportunity - with full knowledge that the tide was coming in - to manage this to a softer landing that did not result in this degree of carnage.
