has anyone else ever made their own cold brew coffee?

It's as simple as letting grounds steep in water overnight, right?

why did my first try end up just tasting like hot brewed coffee that happens to be cold now, rather than that real smooth taste that the commercially sold cold brew offers?

Never, I don't like cold coffee. Good luck though.

I drink iced coffee/cold brew in the summer when purchasing pre made coffee…ie when out of the house. We also get a big bottle of it when summer camping rather than boiling water and packing a French press in the morning.

the only issue with French press is it tends to be all muddy.

I prefer a pourover cone, so you get the paper filter to remove the mud.

I used to be the same but one summer just brought some Stok cold brew and kept it in the cooler.

Instead of getting the fire started, the water boiling and then the press set up, before even thinking about breakfast, now I can just have my coffee straight away while I prep breakfast.

If it's cooler camping, i.e. I wake up and it's sub 50, then I bring the french press.

you mean that hobby for which folks spend thousands of dollars in gear to spend the weekend living like they're homeless?

Camping/Overlanding is one of the things that I truly enjoy.

And yes, French press fresh at a campsite is one of life’s simple pleasures
