for real.
I didn't necessarily post that specifically about meth, though the song specifically mentions it.
I meant more so just the general theme of getting 20 long years for some dust in a baggie.

I didn't realize "going off the rails" abusing Adderall was seen as "good medicine".
all I know is, when I was prescribed 10mg doses of adderall, at the follow-up appointment the doctor asked how it was going for me. I said, not bad I guess, it can help me study and such, but the stuff kinda makes me feel all tweaked out, and gives me stomach aches too.
His solution to that was to prescribe me the 20mg doses in addition.
Sure it was.

I swear if TDub and Quosie spent a weekend in a motel room with a case of whiskey and a few David Allen Coe CDs, they'd end up best buds.

that would make for quite the storyline.
I smell feel-good comedy blockbuster!
who would play TDub and myself as actors?
Something like, Kevin Costner and Rob Schneider.

I’m sure he is a nice guy, but I’ve always thought Kevin Costner a very mediocre actor. To be real, acting is way overvalued. A large portion of the general population is pretty darn good at it without any formal training, but they go on to get more secure jobs that contribute more to society. I’m not saying we don’t know actors and actresses, we do. We just don’t need to fawn over them and pay them millions. There are exceptions, but there are also many cases of high school plays with a performer who could out act Kevin Costner. Any two-year-old can turn on tears. He’s not the worst, but he is one that comes to mind as often playing the same person in every movie.

Yea so that’s why the casting is balanced out with Rob Schneider

I don't disagree he's "overrated" as an actor but respectfully......
Kevin Costner doesn't play himself in movies and you feel "to be real, acting is way overrated". Does that mean you feel he's "real" in movies? If so, then he is "acting" and playing a character you believe is "real". That kind of makes him a natural actor. I give him SOME credit for that.
Costner and other actors contribute to society by being a story teller, an entertainer, a communicator.
Yes, you and I are also story tellers and communicators but we are not typically playing the roles of someone else when we do as such - and I'm not much of an entertainer.
I agree 100% we don't need to fawn over actors. That I don't understand. I do understand appreciating and respecting actors but not fawning over them. I think people fawn over them more for their lifestyles than their acting but either way, I agree we don't need to nor should fawn over them.
Their pay is of course excessive (we are talking movie stars - not actors in a small town play) but that's more a knock on society than it is on them.
Of course critiquing actors is subjective - as you and I are proving. Yes, I agree there are HS actors who can "out perform" Costner. I also happen to feel there are some HS kids who are better artists, musicians, writers, etc. than many who are "famous".
I sort of agree that he plays the same same person in SOME movies but I also feel from Field of Dreams, to JFK, to Dances with Wolves, to Waterworld (I know, a "bomb") he shows some "range".
All that being said, I am confident Kevin Costner wouldn't be nearly as big of a "movie star" if he wasn't a good looking guy - and his looks sell as many if not more movie tickets than his acting does.

Now the doc has me curious just how much formal training the average actor really receives.
With musicians or athletes or other sorts of performance types, even the naturally gifted ones still inevitably have to put in thousands of hours of practice to be proficient. With music or sports, there's a certain point you just can't fake it, but with acting, faking it is precisely the name of the game.
But acting does some like one of those things someone with a little natural talent could just jump up there and do.
I'm sure there IS some technical training and practice to it, I just don't quite understand.
and yea, there's other factors too, like whether you're attractive, whether you are a good self-promoter, whether you have a good agent, whether you/your agent is connected to begin with, etc.

I remember this one time I was sitting in a Panera bread eating a shitty overpriced bagel and drinking coffee that at least isn't Starbucks and using their wifi to get some work done on the computer. This portly middle aged lady randomly came up to me and started up about how she was going to Nashville to revive her singing and dancing and acting career.
She's flailing around showing me her act when the chick behind the counter walks up and says, "excuse me sir, someone has called you on our phone behind the counter, would you like to take the call?" I ask if it's possible to take a message and I'll follow up. Finally, the goofy lady with Nashville aspirations tuckers herself out.
I go up to the chick at the counter. There wasn't actually a call for me, was there? "No sir, we were just trying to give you an out in case that lady was bothering you." I tell the chick I appreciate it, I really do, but at least in that instance, I didn't mind, cuz I thought all that song-and-dance shit was fucking hilarious, way more entertaining than any actual show in Nashville.

Great-looking actors are a dime a dozen. Give me the atypical ones.
Dustin Hoffman, Tommy Lee Jones, Philip Seymour Hoffman, William H. Macy, John C. Reilly, Paul Giamatti, I could go on and on between legit good actors and not pin-up material.

Doesn't it seem like there are a lot more shows available now with so many streaming 'stations' doing their own? For tv, there must be a flattening of acting stardom. Pay the writers and production crew, etc, you can grab just about anyone off the street (for cheap) to do the acting, though a familiar face might draw in some viewers (but can't keep them). Sometime the actors do not want to be pigeon-holed into one hit role (eg Harry Potter). The need of non-white actors is also flattening the acting stardom.

Gary Oldham (sp?) needs to be on my list of honestly good acting without being there only for being good-looking.
