But adding a gay man to a females ticket would be too much.
"would be too much" is the sorta tunnel vision that led to Biden taking the stage in the last debate.
The Dems should dare to "be too much" for once. trumpty and his misogynist boy wonder already have the homophobe/nazi/christian nationalist vote locked up. The Dems lose nothing by picking "too much". And they gain absolute contrast.

Behold, the next characteristically-cunning, meticulously coordinated (and leak free) Democrat RIG job:
Behind-the-Scenes, the U.S. Secret Service has suggested to the Trump Campaign that due to Security Concerns, any further Rallies planned before November’s Election be held at Indoor Venues with Attendees being kept to a Minimum.
https://x.com/sentdefender/status/18158 ... q_-8Yt1KMA
So, the shooter is going to be a D plant responsible for (somehow) causing Biden to drop (by strengthening Trump?) AND ALSO taking Trump away from his precious rallies.
Those tricksy Dems!

Sadly
I think I agree with you - in regards to how those making the decisions feel - and what they think the public feels. I wish I didn't agree.
How do you feel about adding a woman or a Jew?
I wouldn’t add a woman. Too easy for the GOP to target.
If it isn’t Pete, I would probably go with Kelly.

You know, I am rethinking this.
White Christian knuckle draggers are going Trump.
But, keeping most of Joes votes, while increasing votes from black, Asian, female , gay men and women……pretty formidable numbers.

I’m in the two-putt camp. Don’t overthink this. Beshear, Kelly or Shapiro. Let the race be about Kamala.

I doubt they add another woman so I would bet it is either Shapiro or Kelly.

Beshear is from Kentucky and will not help them win flaming red Kentucky so I put him a distant 3rd.
Kelly or Shapiro may help in their home battleground states of Arizona or Pennsylvania.

That's always the first thing that comes to my mind too, and I totally agree.
Although, when you look back, the last presidential candidate to make their choice based on hoping the VP will help them carry a state was probably Reagan choosing George HW Bush in 1980.

I don't know if it's the sink the 50 footer for a birdie or the miss the lay up for a bogey camp but I feel the Dems and Kamala shouldn't "over" think it but they sure as heck better give it A LOT of thought and consideration. Which I am extremely confident they are doing.
As far as making the race about Kamala, you are a glass half full guy. I am a glass half empty guy.
Something tells me the glass is just half (not half FULL not half EMPTY) no matter how we look at it. Right or wrong, I feel if the Dems felt there was some magical way to make it about more than just Kamala, the Dems would be stupid/foolish not to do it.
That's me. There are much smarter people than me who are making the decision/s.
I think there are popular flavors but I don't think there is a definitive standout flavor of the month right now, so that being said, like you said, the race should probably be (and is?) simply about Kamala.
No doubt she's coming in hot RIGHT NOW, and then should see another boost from the DNC. but then the novelty will wear off a bit and between mid August and November it might be a real bitch in regards to the results we see when we wake up on November 6th. I hope I am wrong about that.

I was thinking about this last night.
I have referred to my Nephew as a straight Pete Pete Buttigieg.
I think he's the same age as Pete. Similar look, similar personality.
When he was in his early teens he became very interested in politics. I told him I felt he could be President one day if he really wants to be. You know, if I really believed it or not, I wanted to encourage and support him. I told my sister and brother in law that I wouldn't be shocked if he was President one day and they would sort of roll their eyes and do a head bob.
Since High School he's been very involved in politics. Nationally in D.C., and working with and for the Governors and Lieutenant Governors of Massachusetts. Ranging from being a "personal assistant", to a speech writer, to the head of event planning and coordinating, to being a "Senior advisor" on education policies and funding initiatives, etc. etc. etc. He is currently a "Senior advisor" to the Air Force.
PointS of my sharing all that is... I feel if he continued and had serious aspirations to become President one day, I feel he would have been the perfect guy to be running with Kamala right now. PHENOMENAL guy, smart, dedicated, moral, etc., etc....
Of course there are some great people who are politicians but why the heck do we have so many pieces of shit in our government who truly care more about themselves than they do their constituents and our country?
Why aren't there people who really stand out that we could say would be slam dunks for Kamala to have as a running mate?

I think the answer to your last question is sort of implied by the beginning of your post.

the money in politics has a lot to do with it
i’ve often said that those who would actually make the best politicians likely want nothing to do with “all the other stuff” it takes to get there…US politics, at least in the national level it seems, requires a bit of sleaziness to climb the ranks

Not just the “takes to get there” but also the “being there.”

AZ = 11 votes, PA = 19
The math says Shapiro. I hate it when DC is right.

seeing some speculation that a Shapiro selection might have a bigger downside than expected due to the Israel/Palestinian issue

God knows we don't want to upset those delicate 18-22 year olds. Them not showing up to vote in 2016 due to being butt hurt about the DNC passing over Sanders for Clinton is what gave us Trump in the first place.
