I don't think that Biden has much choice either, given the Right Wing chorus yammering about the border. Maybe will move some other policies. But a wall is pretty stupid when you see the actual economic issues which drive immigration. And the climate change we helped really drive.
Meanwhile, if the border hawks have their way, we’ll pull aid from Ukraine and also put boots on the ground in Mexico. Bang-up plan, folks.
Seems pretty logical. Has a lot more impact on the day-to-day life of American taxpayers than funds sent to Ukraine.

I would conceptually be ok with this, if I wasn't nearly certain that all that's really happening here is we're spending a lot of money and doing a lot of damage solely to make certain groups feel better.
New Yorkers?

The Biden administration announced today that it will waive 26 environmental, public health and cultural resource protection laws to fast-track construction of the border wall through the fragile Lower Rio Grande Valley National Wildlife Refuge and neighboring lands.
Among many concerns, wall construction in this area will harm recovery plans for endangered ocelots, which depend on contiguous wildlife corridors of protected habitat along the Rio Grande.
sigh…
Thanks, Biden!
Is Mexico paying for this?

For Brandon? Probably not.

Technically, by losing the southwest in fraudulent war, working at almost no pay, and giving us cheap goods, Mexico has paid for the wall. No wonder so many don't want to look upon them.

yea, destroying ecosystems sucks.
why couldn't Biden do something COOL with an executive order instead?
as for politics - this is loose/loose. Biden's not gonna pick up much if anything from right-leaning border hawks, but he stands to further alienate any left-leaning types who actually care or pay attention to things.

The sad part is I’m not sure anyone’s actually expecting a result. This is pure politics.
yep
Let’s put a pin in this one for next time I’m accused of thinking Biden walks on water.
It's complicated:
President Joe Biden on Thursday defended his administration’s decision to waive 26 federal laws in South Texas to allow for construction of roughly 20 miles of additional border wall, saying he had no choice but to use the Trump-era funding for the barrier to stop illegal migration from Mexico.
Asked if he thought such walls work, he said flatly, “No.”
The new construction was announced in June, but the funds were appropriated in 2019 before the Democratic president took office. Biden said he tried to get lawmakers to redirect the money but Congress refused, and the law requires the funding to be used as approved and the construction to be completed in 2023.
“The money was appropriated for the border wall,” Biden said. “I can’t stop that.”

then why didn't he just NOT take the executive action to waive the laws? can he not stop that either?
it's crazy how often Biden gets away with shit like, "who the heck is the president I'd like to have a word with him"

and, speaking of "no choice but to use the Trump-era funding..."
remember when the bulk of the messaging of Biden's campaign was, "we need to stop Trump"

Does it occur to you to give any thought to what you type, before you type it?
(That was rhetorical, don't feel any obligation to answer.)

Did you pay attention to what happened when he used executive order to actually help people, with student loans?
The Republican Party goes apoplectic if someone makes people’s lives better.
