You of all people should understand what can happen when you provide tourists with vague guidelines. If you want the additional flexibility of a vague end date then you have to accept the higher risk of an unpleasant demand.
I implored the guy to go in July or august. Nothing vague about that. It was never supposed to come down to some last minute photo finish debating the semantics of “early September” in the first place!

But in yet another classic example of “y’all can’t tell me what to do” entitled ass tourist defiance, this guy insisted on his own prerogative anyway.

Next year, I’m gonna bill the item as “not valid until early September,” as I figure that’s the best way to get y’all to go in July.
Oh, I totally get it. People's schedules rarely line up with the optimal time to do anything and inevitably some asshole customer is not going to care about that. "I got work, I got kids" etc... I listened to a guy argue with the river rafting people trying to get a discount on a raft trip because the "water wasn't very good" in late July even though he admitted that he was told that it would be far inferior to a mid to late May time frame. That's a separate issue and one you cannot do anything about except for not being in a customer facing profession. Some people just suck.

All I am speaking about is doing as much as you can to eliminate ambiguity on dates if you have a specific date in mind or have a point at which you aren't going to be happy about providing the service any longer. Especially when you are providing the service as a donation and are inevitably going to be less excited to be happy about working for "free". If it was purchased at an auction then the customer didn't get it for free and he expects to get "what he's paid for" even though you aren't getting paid for it. The downside of such donations.

Yeah, I guess if he paid what he did then he gets a certain prerogative.

But still, I just dunno why he’s gonna dick around about it. You’re sabotaging y’all’s own trip. But there are certain things that, through class and socioeconomics and stuff, are more acceptable to dick around about.

And fwiw I’m treating it less like a commercial trip, and more like a just a potential new fishing buddy. I expressed that to him too. But like they say in A River Runs Through It, there’s 3 things you should never be late for: work, church, and fishing.

Say I give this guy another friendly invite down the road. “Pick you up tomorrow at 8?” I have genuine concerns he’d arbitrary change it to 9am next early September. Oh well. His looss.

How many pages of Q hammering? Of course, Q can't let it go either.

When I read Q's original post (5 pages ago?) I took it to mean that he was frustrated that the guy waited too long and may have missed his opportunity. That Q was trying to get this guy to go when he had the best shot at a successful fishin trip. Q was actually trying to provide this guy with a good time.

And I realize he forgot about the whole thing. I probably forgot some stuff I said in July as well.
You forgot the part about how aliens visited Jerry, that’s true too.

I know, they stopped by to say, "hi".

It can be frustrating but the paper clip trick has worked for me.

pliers, screwdriver and s pin to pop out the stopper.

fix the bent tooth, remover the stopper and slide off the zipper. line the teeth up and push together. Slide the zipper handle back on, pinch the glide and replace the stopper.

or get something with buttons.

If the last house painters we hired are a barometer, then 110 an hour.

We won’t be hiring them again.

We had a couple our garage and dining room painted along with some drywall patching and handyman stuff done around the house. He was there most of the day and charged $400. Mrs 99 found this guy on the neighborhood app. He's done a bunch of stuff for us and has done great work.

thanks guys.

so if someone was trying to get me to paint a deck for $20 an hour, that's prob a lowball offer, right?

Yea, i'd expect closer to 30 if you're not an experienced ( i.e. do it more than a few times a year ) painter.

are you a professional painter with years of experience?

What a painter makes isnt really the question.

If you're willing to do it for 20 an hour then do it.....if you're not, they'll find someone else to do it for that price.

20/hr, under the table (i assume) really isn't a terrible offer for any work... particularly painting which is generally near the low end of the scale for trade work.

you guys would expect 30/hr for someone with little to no experience to tape off and roll some paint on a deck? man...how times have changed.

We had our deck power washed and stained. Way more that 20/hr. But the dude did have years of experience.

Can you tell we're getting our house on the market?

Closer to 30, yea, up here.
Shit's expensive on much of the East coast.

If I lived in Kansas, i'd say closer to 20 than 30.
