He looked great then but lately he's been sucking eggs. Obviously it's not an injury; we'd know about that. So seems like it has to be one or more of 3 different things -
1. Personal medical issue or (more likely) mental health issue
2. Major medical issue with someone in the family
3. He could be getting f'd up with drugs somehow
The indefinite time line on top of his deteriorating play quality, to me speak to either #1 or #3.
We'll probably never know and frankly it's none of our business. I wish him well but why couldn't this have happened at some other time? Losing him means the team is now minus 3 of their 5 projected starters at the beginning of the season, and losing him most likely is the last nail in the coffin of championship #15.
Assuming the streak is in fact dead - which it very much may not be! - it's sort of amazing to think about just how much it took to kill it.

which adds to my feeling about just how impressive it would be to keep it going...despite all that's "gone wrong" this season

Asshole.

“That may have been the deal in Vick’s case, too, but it looked as if it had an adverse effect on his teammates.

I’m certainly not going to speak for any of them here, but we’ve all been around that person — at work, at school, in social settings, wherever — who can create a tense environment and put everyone a little more on edge than they would like to be.

If Vick’s recent issues created that kind of atmosphere for this team, it’s entirely possible that these still-young Jayhawks will play with much more freedom and much looser with Vick back home in Memphis.”

Can we all stop speculating on what the problem is and just wish Vick and his family the best? He's a Jayhawk.

How did posting a link from the KUSports sports editor create speculation on “what the problem is” from members of this community in which you are addressing or calling out? I don’t understand how you came to such stance from posting a link about what it means for the remaining players?

Sorry, didn't mean to direct that solely at you. I meant the Board in general. My mistake.

In a way I almost hope there really is some personal issue that really does require Vick’s full attention, and it’s not just coach speak for suspending a mercurial senior.

Best wishes to Lagerald either way.

I would guess the relationship runs the opposite way - the thing(s) giving rise to the mercurialness are what begat the departure.

Posters have no idea why he's taking a leave, whether it has to do with his mind, or his family, or what.
My argument has been Vick's performance on the court, not off ( and have mentioned on several occasions we don't know what is happening off the court ).

Instead of saying 'i told you so' or 'we're better off without him,' maybe you go the Chiknbut route, and don't be a dick.

Vick went off on Self “on the court” at Texas. He then went off on the team “on the court” against Kstate. He’s fucked up every part of the Self reinstatement agreement. Those are things fans have directly seen, and those are the things you telling posters we don’t know and can’t discuss now. And ultimately what you are calling people vulgar names over.

Perhaps you need to take a Memphis break or chikns enlightened pathway. No one has done anything to deserve close to your reaction.

We get you’ve known we’re REAL assholes, always. Just say that instead of hiding behind a stupid Vick discussion. It doesn’t add up.

I heard you insult us yet again. No need to repeat your behavior. What gutter and others are asking about, is why you did and why you continue to. There has been virtually nothing of insults or disrespectful behavior directed Vick’s way.

Sorry for not everyone buying your opinion of him. Again, not a reason to insult board members.

Dotson also had heated words with Self during the KSU loss. Russell Robinson is a beloved former player who famously almost fought Self in a practice.

Hindsight is 20/20 and it's really easy to look at Vick or Greene and be like "I knew it all along" when they finally get shown the door.

In pdub's defense there's always been a vocal contingent of KU fan's who have seemed to actively root against Vick. I'm not sure why. pdub may have been premature with calling people out for saying I told you so...but it wasn't without a reason.

We're all kinda guilty of this same problem. Frustrated with the team, the Chiefs, this sucky weather. We're all barking at each other as a result. That it is Vick's situation adding to it makes it especially frustrating; he is already maddening to watch.

If he has an issue then I hope it gets sorted out. Not every KU player ends up being revered and adored for the rest of their lives. This season sucks compared to others but it will come to an end regardless and another will start this fall.

The guys that stick around will gain valuable experience for next year and we will all root hard for them to be the team that starts another amazing streak. I hope this unfortunate situation leads to Dotson and Agbaji feeling more enabled to take over the leadership role of this team.

Sometimes you just outlast the crappy stuff.

To pharaphase the words of Coach Norman Dale..."our team is on the floor"...

With or without Dok, SDS or Vick, we still expect to win each time we watch. Most of us will still have KANSAS winning it all in our March Madness bracket. We will think about having someone else but at the end we will select the Jayhawks. Because who want them to win the Championship and you selected the Zags or Puke?

This isn’t hindsight. This isn’t a freshmen issue. This is very simple. Vick has been kicked out of KU. He begged to be back, and coach would not allow unless he signed a behavior and expectations contract. We are now pretending that this never happened, and you are blaming Freshmen, or Robin and the Green Lantern, as equal blame. We’re all going to pretend that is the reality? The GIANT writing on the wall was never there? Everyone is equal?

We are then supposed to take consideration of life stressers and external factors when speaking of Vick, but not at all when speaking to the member of this community?

Strange place.
