I will also say, this style of team building usually fails. Lakers have 4 total players under contract right now, and according to ESPN very little financial flexibility heading into free agency. They're going to end up with a bunch of vet minimum guys chasing rings. Not sure that's enough to beat healthy Nets, Bucks, or healthy Warriors.

pdub wrote: Thu Jul 29, 2021 9:47 pm I disagree Russ will be better for the team then Buddy otherwise I wouldn't have posted, "that woulda made sense".

Do the Lakers need an assist rebounding machine when they have Bron and Davis?

I'd rather Hield or Fournier for them.
Stat stuffing 28 percent three point shooting gotta have the ball in his hands Russ ain't it.
I'm not saying you are wrong per se but I respectfully disagree.
While Buddy and Evan are nice players and the Lakers do need "outside" shooting........
Russ Westbrook has played with LeBron and AD and they both like if not love him.
Russ Westbrook is a former league MVP.
Russ Westbrook averaged a triple double (with 20+ points) at least 4 times - including last season.
Russ Westbrook is the all time triple double leader.
Perhaps to you and others that's "stat stuffing" but to me I feel 90% of the players in the league wish they "stuffed" their stats like he does.
The "gotta have the ball in his hands" guy led the league in assists 3 times.
Assists = unselfishness? I think so.
The guy is a rebounding machine at 6-3.
Rebounds = effort? I think so.
FWIW, according to ESPN Russ Westbrook is one of the 50 best players in the history of the NBA. He's still playing at an extremely high level.
Anytime you have a chance to get a player like Westbrook and you have the blessing/s of The King and The Brow, you probably should grab him - at pretty much any cost.

Paul George wanted out of OKC because of Westbrook.
Really? He tell you that?

You don't need to list off his accomplishments - i've never said he's not a good player.
I don't think he's a good fit for the Lakers.
You could have gotten Hield for Kuzma and Harrell and have kept their 1st round pick - which they coulda spent on the defensive big from Spain. And then I think would have the money/pieces to go after another perimeter player like Fournier.

Now you have a player in his prime, who was 2nd in the NBA in 3's made last season yet has been on one of the worst teams in the NBA his entire career -- instead of a guy who has ( I think caused ) been around drama with some of the biggest stars in the league ( KD, PGIII, Harden ), has the worst 3 point percentage in NBA history for players with over 2,500 attempts and is costing you on average 46 million a year.

I'm not going to get into it with the king and prince of arguing just to argue.
You guys like the fit, I don't.
We'll see if the Lakers win a title.

I don't think the "fit" is good necessarily either. And i definitely didn't think we were arguing, i just thought we were talking.

Didn't think LeBron and Wade fit that well either.

Or Harden and Kyrie.

It's just the nature of the NBA when you team build via everything but the actual draft.

Cp3 Booker and Ayton fit.
Giannis Middleton and Jrue fit.
Klay Steph and Draymond fit.
And thats why those teams were very successful together.

My guess is this post will get ignored because it doesn't fit the narrative some people have about Russ being a bad teammate.

Those are actual words from his teammate, but they don't seem to matter?

None of us know the "fit" yet. We are making assumptions.
Lakers needed a PG and I feel they got a great one.
I'm simply saying I like the acquisition. Apparently the Buss family and Rob Pelinka do too.

29 teams are going to fail to win the 2022 Championship. Odds are against the Lakers winning it.
If they don't win the title it will be considered a failure by many. I can't say people would be wrong for feeling that way but my question is, will the same be said about the Nets if they don't win the title?
If not, why not?

Lebron cant win without 3 superstars.

Lebron makes bad personnel decisions.

Its ok because Russ tries hard and he doesnt care about shooting, plus they're Friends.

Or something like that

So...the Lakers won't win the title and that's ok, the blame goes entirely on the role players, not the superstars because of fit and lack of role players, and Russ is a good teammate.

Am I up to speed?

Lakers have had a great UFA period, singing Joel Ayayi and Austin Reaves to two way contracts and Chandree Brown, Mac McClung to Exhibit 10 contracts. Lots of young shooters getting a chance to make their roster.

And Marcus Garrett signed a UFA contract with Miami. I hope he makes their roster.

Wow. Competition, but I would not be shocked at all if all 4 of those played in the NBA.
