Selby
Crimscore .272.
7.9 PPG. 2.2 RPG. 2.2 APG.
37% FG. 36% 3FG.

Elmarko
.191.
4.1 PPG. 1.2 RPG. 1.7 APG.
41% FG. 32% 3FG.

So Selby's season was better than Elmarko's.
And people were extremely disappointed in Selby's season.

I guess my biggest issue - scouting the stat line aside - is that when you watch games, you just don't see Jackson really doing all that much that is interesting.

You can count his highlights on two hands, or maybe even one - there was the transition dunk, a couple pull-up jumpers and a couple strong off-hand takes.

But for the most part he just sort of fades into the background. Very little he does pops.

It's been said, but he plays like an undersized 2 who might be an above-average athlete, and is a below-average (or poor) shooter.

It's just EXTREMELY hard to get excited about that profile, even if (like Elijah) he matures into a good starter on a good team.

Right.
At least Selby had this:

Just look at the wins and resume of this team. Not a team that's desperate for help

And a team with a McDonald's all American and a 6th year player who was an 18 ppg scorer shooting 45% from 3 last year coming off the bench
can't exactly call itself paper thin

How about this year?

Selby was also consensus top 5. #1 overall recruit on rivals, compared to elmarko, a top 30 guy

Both played 20 minutes per game, averaged 2 assists, didn't shoot the ball that well. Selby scored an extra basket a game.

It's just an example how stupid it is to have high hopes for a freshman. If anyone on this team is a let down, it's been Timberlake

I recall. I was at that game. The fieldhouse was lit. The selby debut gave us a false hope of expectation for the kid. He hit open 3s. It was kind of like the Quentin Grimes Michigan state game

Randy, when you make unserious points, you will be treated like an unserious poster.

We play FOUR guys 32+ mpg. Since the calendar flipped to 2024, we are 10-7.

Self tends to stifle the freedom of creativity of guards early in the careers. He breaks them of their habits and forces them to play the way he wants them to.

It's not a bad thing, it creates efficient guards that win a lot of games. But it's a tough adjustment for a lot of guys, and some lose their confidence in the process. That's why guards don't tend to excel in their first year here. Even top recruits like Selby, or highly sought after transfers like Remy or Timberlake

Show me a season where self wasn't playing his main starters 32+ minutes?

They are pretty rare. We court use an extra front court player. But most teams would love to have a McDonald's all American and a highly sought after transfer like Timberlake coming off the bench

This was a preseason #1 team. Has beat 3 #1 seeds already, plus a lot of other good wins. Loaded with upperclassmen, we have 2 all Americans, the best true pg in the country, a beast of a Jr forward, a potential 1st round pick in furphy. And off the bench we have a burger boy, a 6th year guard who hit 200 threes last season, and another 5th year big

Could we be deeper? Yes. Are we "paper thing and desperate for help?" Hell no. That statement makes kansas sound like a bunch of entitled crybabies

Jesus Christ. I would tell you to do your own research, but I don't need to hear about chemtrails from a YouTube Blippi knockoff.

Since Bill got here...and to be helpful, I will * regular season conference champs.

Guys >32.0 mpg:

2004 - 1
2005 - 2*
2006 - 0*
2007 - 1*
2008 - 0*
2009 - 1*
2010 - 1*
2011 - 0*
2012 - 2*
2013 - 2*
2014 - 1*
2015 - 1*
2016 - 2*
2017 - 2*
2018 - 3*
2019 - 3
2020 - 3*
2021 - 2
2022 - 2*
2023 - 3*
2024 - 4

To be clear, this means that this is the FIRST year we would do something you want to act like is routine.

Playing over 32 minutes a game isn't rare. It's starter minutes. Self tends to lean on the guys he trusts

I find it hard to beleive the year he referred to frank, devonte, Selden and perry as "the 4 horseman" that they didn't all play 32.

What did one of them average 31 minutes?

And if you look at your stats, that shows for the past decade we've consistently had 3 or so guys playing 32+ minutes. This year it's 4. We also have 4 really good upperclassmen, so why wouldn't self play them?

And dickinson barely made the arbitrary 32 minutes a game number you pulled. If you change it to 33, then he doesnt, and self only plays 3 guys that much, and this year is no different than 2018, 2019, 2020, 2023. Par for the course in recent years. Selfs leans on his starters

Good old cherry picked stats

So quite often all our starters play around 30 mpg and we are just splitting hairs here.

Unless you go way back to the loaded teams around 2010

But fish was just trying to stretch the argument in a different direction. Because the whole "elmarko has been a huge letdown and disappointment" conversation was going nowhere

Elmarko has had good moments and flashed potential, and has been as good or better than most freshman guards. I'm excited to see what he turns into
