Re: Totally random thread
i’ve tried it once at friend’s…“game” where you’re out on a plank in a city. i didn’t see the point, and the novelty wore off rather quickly
i’d want to try it with a 1st-person rpg or shooter game
generally though, i doubt i’d ever waste the coin on it and i definitely wouldn’t use it in the way zuck is envisioning
makes me think of Demolition Man… “sex” without touching or any kind of exchange of fluids. sounds like a blast

Have we fallen into a mesmerized state that makes us accept as inevitable that which is inferior or detrimental, as though having lost the will or the vision to demand that which is good?

Well, eventually, they'll be able to replicate how your brain reacts and fires pleasure signals that come from interactions like that. Tap straight into the neural system. So when you're visually seeing something, you'll get the stimulus replicated in sync with whatever you're virtually interacting with.

“eventually” we’re gonna go to mars too
doesn’t mean i think it’s necessarily a good idea or use of resources
to each their own
25-30 years ago i played an arcade game (in St. Louis, i think), that was built on a hologram platform…some sort of cowboys and indians storyline. that experience, even though it was decades ago, was much more impressive than my oculus experience

Re: Totally random thread
This is not a statement against or for hunting but I found this surprising:
Tomorrow 150,000 Mainers are predicted to be out hunting.
Our population is 1.3 million.

was just reading about the moose/tick situation there
crazy, that nearly 90% of last year’s calves were lost to ticks in northern ME

I could probably get down with Maine/vermont/New Hampshire. I've been there once....but i was 4 or 5. I dont remember anything except seeing the ocean and a lighthouse. A kid from Kansas doesn't see the ocean often.
Just Ledoux it
Re: Totally random thread
didn't we discuss some thing about how they're combatting ticks in Maine by randomly putting out paper towel rolls with little brushes in them?KUTradition wrote: ↑Fri Oct 28, 2022 6:42 amwas just reading about the moose/tick situation there

Mice are a natural carrier and spreader of ticks, and also naturally wanna climb through little holes like a paper towel roll. And when they climb through, the little brush applies pesticide on the mice, thus reducing the spread of ticks.
I think someone posted it here, but it's been a while.

Reuters has a piece outlining an increased cull for part of Maine to see if thinning that particular moose sub-population reduces its tick prevalence…like thinning pines to deal with bark beetles

Bark beetles make some pretty sweet blue pine lumber though.....KUTradition wrote: ↑Fri Oct 28, 2022 10:50 amsounds vaguely familiarousdahl wrote: ↑Fri Oct 28, 2022 10:03 amdidn't we discuss some thing about how they're combatting ticks in Maine by randomly putting out paper towel rolls with little brushes in them?KUTradition wrote: ↑Fri Oct 28, 2022 6:42 am

Re: Totally random thread
I think it's actually some fungus that causes the blue color on beetle kill pine, more so than the beetles themselves.
the beetle boring just makes the wood more vulnerable to the fungus
