I know one guy who doesn't believe the sawdust story (or really anything):

We are getting new tile put down in the bathrooms and entry way.
1st they are taking up the ugly vinyl flooring. Lots of hammering and scraping.
The dust/smoke from one of the circular saws set off the fire alarms.
Good times while on a conference call.
Are you the head of regulatory affairs in our company? He’s had his floors done and tiles put in his bathroom and kitchen, for a few weeks now and every time he tries to speak the saws get going! Hilarious and frustrating at the same time.

No, my house must be considerably smaller. Saws and hammering were done this morning. Tiles are mostly laid. I'm trapped in my office until they finish up tonight. Grout will be spread tomorrow.

Moral dilemma time.

Nike released these shoes on Saturday.
Image

The Nike store in Chicago has been "sand bagging" them. Didn't sell them on Saturday, Sunday or yesterday.
I 100% know they have them in the store because I have seen them (in the boxes) that they were unpacking and the manager told me they have them but won't release them until some time this week.
I have stood in line an hour before the store has opened with many other people on Saturday, Sunday, and yesterday (see photo below of yesterday) - only to be denied an opportunity to purchase the shoes.
The retail price is $170 + tax (for the adult sizes) and I believe $130 + tax for the kids sizes - and the shoes are currently re-selling for about $450 in adult sizes and $400 in kids sizes.
Needless to say, a LOT of people are wanting to buy them to sell.
The Nike store doesn't open until 11:00am but people line up long before that.

All that being said, TODAY I have a work "check in" Zoom meeting at 11:00am. It's basically a worthless meeting. Bunch of people saying nothing important.
My dilemma is that I feel there is a good chance the Nike Store releases the shoes today.
Of course my job should take precedence but.... Let's be real. I could stand in line for an hour or so to get what I refer to as a free $500. No brainer. Right?
So..... I could either lie and say I have a doctor's appointment, tell the truth and my guess is be reprimanded, or just sit at home and do the Zoom meeting and miss out on my free $500.
What to do?

Line at 10:45am yesterday.

I want to have my kitchen floor re-tiled, but just not sure I want to mess with the headache working from home. Plus the hassle of moving the frig and stove out into the dining room. A $3k project would probably turn into a $5k project since my house was built in 1928 and I just don't want to spend that much.

We have tile throughout much of our main floor, and Mrs. Fish is constantly on me about having the grout bleached and sealed. It is a very expensive undertaking! Anyone have any experience having it done, and whether it stays nice-looking for long?

My default point of view on things like this is with the kids running around as kids will, there's only so much I can give a shit about scuffs on the wall, handprints on the windows, dirty grout, etc.

Yeah, same here. Grout is a fricking pain in the ass to keep clean. I "accidently" cleaned the grout around my downstairs bathroom toilet that is travertine tile using Clorox cleaner and it bleached the grout to light tan (which I'm guessing it should be), but the floor grout is brownish (probably worn in dirt). Now I need to scrub the rest of the floor to match and I just don't want to...lol.

I might try these guys. My neighbor used them and she was happy.

Yeah. Just seems stupid expensive for a cosmetic thing that doesn't have any benefits; at least new windows improve energy efficiency, for example, and new garage door openers give you app control.

Oh I agree. And I have got on my knees and scrubbed that shit before with grout cleaner and it is hard on the knees and takes quite a bit of time.

If I had the money, I would replace all the tile with hardwood and not have any tile in my house besides the shower of course.

Have you thought about dying the grout to make it darker so the discoloration won't show? The dye is sold at most DIY chain stores. Most of my clients in the last 20 years have opted for dark grout for that specific reason.

Please address all complaints/suggestions to Mrs. Fish.

They say this grout does not need to be sealed. We replaced the ugly vinyl in the kitchen a few months ago and so far the grout in there looks ok. The tile looks way better than that stuff. They're finishing up with 1/4 round trim and cleanup now. Two days of crazy and it's done.

Thinking about some joke about the Fish home remodeling and how I’ve never before seen anyone bother to grout tile in an aquarium.

The sad thing is it's not anything close to remodeling. It's just insanely expensive, nonfunctional, entirely cosmetic work.

But again, I think fish’s interior design budget could be better spent on things like, one of those little treasure chests that opens up and bubbles every so often, or even a sunken pirate shipwreck that his kids can hide in until they swim out for dinner time.

i always preferred the semi-buoyant diver that was looking for the treasure chest
